JULY 2019 New Dog Food Recall Alert

Pet Supplies is recalling Bulk Pigs' Ears in 33 states. The Pigs' Ears were the kind sold from open bins.

Reason SALMONELLA INFECTION:

Bulk pig ears were distributed to Pet Supplies Plus stores in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

On July 3, 2019, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the Agency is investigating contaminated pig ear dog treats that may be connected to human Salmonella infections that have sickened 45 people in 13 states.

Twelve patients are hospitalized.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting.

Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain.

Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

July 26, 2019 — The Lennox International, Inc., of Edison NJ, is voluntary recalling its Natural Pig Ears dog treats because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The affected pig ears product is supplied in an 8-pack branded pouch under UPC 742174 995163 and 742174994166.

It is also available in an individually shrink-wrapped package under UPC 0385384810 and 742174P35107.

All UPC codes are located on the front label of the package.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting.

Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain.

Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans.

If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.
The recalled products were shipped nationwide to distributors and retail stores between May 1 and July 3, 2019.

To date, Lennox is aware of two cases of its pig ears causing illnesses in dogs.

Consumers who have purchased the product and have proper receipt may return product. Or they may contact the company at 800-538-8980, Monday to Friday, 9 to 5 pm, for a refund or additional information.

It seems I remember some trouble with "pig ears" a few years back, I guess bottom line is give the doggies a different treat and always avoid the "pig ears" just to be safe.

Yes, there are so many recalls of dog treats over the years. I always think it's best to make home-cooked/baked dog treats, so we know they are safe.
