Dental work

I read that dental work may cause an outbreak if i have hsv, but i'm not sure if i do since i've never gotten an outbreak but have dated people with oral herpes, but they've never suffered an outbreak after the initial. whats the % of outbreaks caused by dental works? since i need to get a tooth removed for braces.

I wasn't able to find any stats on this, so I'm guessing it's never been studied. We do know that 90% of those with oral hsv1 never get any symptoms, and we'd have to assume that most of those people have been to the dentist, and many have had some kind of dental work done, and not gotten any symptoms.

If you've never gotten an outbreak, it doesn't mean you will now, if you even have it. This isn't something I'd worry about at all. If you end up with an outbreak, you can try suppressive therapy, like daily valtrex or acyclovir, at least for the duration of your braces.
