HSV Exposure

Weird itchy bump appeared in gluteal fold near but bone or closer to scrotum.  No known HSV status for me or partner. Same partner for 20 years. I left it alone for two days.  I had my partner express the fluid out. It deflated then scabbed, then ulcerated, then scabbed and healed. One centimeter circle. There looked to be a pin head sized hole next to it to. Not sure there. Healed in three weeks.  I did get this strange feeling before I started to itch that is why I am so scared. Internet has me freaked.  It has healed.  Could this be hsv primary for me from prior partners?  No penile lesions ever or anything for that matter.  Do I need to take a test or will this cause more confusion?  Oh and no oral sex in years.  Thanks in advance.

It could be herpes, but it could also be a lot of other things, like an infected hair follicle, for example.

You could get a type specific IgG blood test done, and find out if you have either type of herpes, but that won't tell you if this was herpes. It will only tell you if you have either type. If you have type 1, for example, that could be an oral infection you've had since childhood, and didn't know about, like most people. About half the adult population has oral type 1, and 90% will never get any symptoms.

I'd suggest that if it happens again, NOT expressing the fluid from it, and getting in to see a doc to have them culture it, preferably with a PCR swab.

In any case, don't freak. If you have herpes, it means that either you had it prior to entering this relationship, or your partner did (unless you have some suspicions of cheating, but this isn't enough by itself to prove it - not nearly enough). If you did, that means you and your partner have been having sex for 20 years without transmitting it. Nothing should really change. If your partner had it first, and now you have it, you both have the same thing, and you can't give each other what you already have.

But I don't want to get ahead of myself here - there are lots of other things it could be than herpes, so we can cross that bridge if it happens.

Thanks so much. She said it was swollen and convex shaped with like three heads on it.  She said it didn’t look like blisters.  Weird spot.  No genital issues ever.  I did mow the yard that am and stupidly did it with no underwear.  Obviously really spooked here.  It itches pretty bad like a mosquito bite. Put Benadryl on it. I could send you pictures of the original bump before I mucked with it. Let me know and thanks.
Did the Benedryl help? It could be a bite of some kind (and I'm sure that's just as spooky as herpes).

We can't post genital pics on the site here, but you can post them on imgur or a similar site and link them.

How is it now?
Aunt j it was just strange.  This thing looked like a spider bite.  It was swollen skin    Not just bumps on the skin.  Started from the bottom.  Bennadryl stopped the itch but I had the wife pop it and pull the fluid out. She said it was like one mass not individual bumps or anything.  Took about three weeks and there is still a scar   It’s been six weeks.  There was no red base with it. It was just red all the way through.  It then peeled around the whole too when it was heeling due to the swelling.

If I didn’t have any hsv exposure in the past and came into contact somehow wouldn’t I typically have a bad outbreak?
Yeah, that doesn't sound like herpes at all, though I would really hate to think you had a spider bite there. That just makes me dizzy thinking about it.

Was it a boil or abscess? Herpes wouldn't cause a mass like that, or scarring like that.

Yes, your first outbreak is usually the worst, but it just doesn't sound like herpes to me, or any STD.
It was like a boil or google spider bite. It was super inflamed.  Probably like a centimeter in raised swelling.  Looked like a volcano with a mass on top.  There was no red base. It was just red everywhere from swelling.  Didn’t really have a head per se like a boil.  Just fluid encapsulated on top of the volcano.  It left a big whole and the skin had to grow back from out to in.   I wouldn’t have thought herpes but I did feel a burn and intense itch before it appeared.  Took about a half day for the swelling to set in.  I let it go for two days and then had the wife pop it because of the itching.  That immediately stopped the itching.  It all settled down and was gone on in about three 1/2 weeks.  I still feel sensitive down there where it occurred.  Like a dull ache and kind of just a weird sensation down there.
Yeah, that's not herpes at all. It could have been an infected hair follicle that got really bad, a bite, or something along those lines.

You can test for herpes if you want, but it won't do much more than tell you if you have type 1 or type 2, and it won't tell you what this was.

It sounds awful, though.
Aunt j have you ever seen herpes present as like and inflamed bite that just was swollen kind of?
Nope, never. I've heard of people getting bites that sound like that (though it honestly makes me dizzy to think of anyone getting a bite there), and boils, abscesses, infected hair follicles, etc., though.
Ok.  I couldn’t find anything close to it on the internet except for a spider bite or like a furnuckle with no head and fluid.  Herpes appears to be more tiny like bumps right? That can be kind of close or scattered clumps.   I would know if it was herpes right?  I took a blood test but we decided not to open Pandora’s box afterwards.  What are your thoughts there?
Oh and I forgot to mention the original bump was the diameter of like a car cigarette lighter and once it opened it was maybe condensed to like the size of a top to a chapstick stick.
Herpes sores are blisters and sometimes like paper cuts. They are never like you describe.

You might not know it - herpes is often mistaken for fungal infections like jock itch, and vice versa, but it's never anything you have to drain like your wife did. Some people try to pop the blisters, but it's not any kind of procedure like you describe.

It's entirely up to you whether to find out if you have herpes or not. You're married, or been with the same person for 20 years anyway. I can't imagine much changing if you know you have it or not. There's no right or wrong answer - just what works for you both.

Whether or not you have herpes, I am still convinced this is not herpes.

If it comes back again, get it checked. You just need to make sure you don't have a bacteria that needs antibiotics. DO NOT drain it at home, or the doc won't be able to test the fluid inside it.
Your the best. Thanks
You're welcome :)

One last one. Just for my own sanity if you get blisters from herpes do recurrences stay on each side like always left or right side of the body?  I had some blisters on my feet once that itches like hell. They weren’t clumped but singular and spaced out on my feet and shin. About 5 or 6.  Occurred on my right side 7 years or so ago.  I felt a burn before they appeared.  It was the same kind of burn I felt with this episode but completely different appearances and this is on my left side way away from my feet.  Not trying to connect the dots but got a little freaked about it.
Your not. I understand.  I just am an anxious person and I guess at this point I really would not want to know.  I will let y’all know if things change.  Y’all are great.
