How many types of HIV?

Hello all, i want to know if there is a third type of HIV as well? I know there is HIV 1 & 2, but are there more? I know the tests look for antibodies to 1 & 2 but is there a 3rd or 4th type as well?

Your 3 month test was conclusive. Both because you had no risk in the first place so obviously it would come up negative, and because any HIV test is conclusive 3 months after exposure. Of course you had no exposure because you used a condom, so the test was unnecessary. You don't have HIV.

I was feeling anxious so I tested for peace of mind. I don’t see anything wrong in doing that. But for my own knowledge can you tell me about my first question about how many type of HIV virus there is? 1 and 2, anymore than that?
The question was answered several hours ago by zell_lin - only HIV-1 and HIV-2 exist, and you have tested conclusively negative for both.

Is there any risk that you are worried about?

There is no point in wasting time discussing about HIV types and subtypes unless you are a doctor trying to find out some thing specific.

I am worried about how many types of HIV there is. I got tested after an exposure. The guys condom came off during vaginal sex. So I tested after 3 months negative. Now I want to be sure I got the correct test which was Combo Ag/ab 1/2. I want to know if there are any other types of HIV alike 3/4/5/6?
How did the condom fail, was it an unprotected penetration?

If the tip of the penis was protected with the condom, there was no risk.
I don’t know he said it came off. I can’t trust what happened so I wanted to get tested. And anyway one should get tested right. So can you please just answer my question about the types of hiv? I’m not asking about strains, I’m just asking if there are more than two types? I know there’s is HIV 1 and 2, are there any more?
". And anyway one should get tested right. "
If you had no risk there is no purpose in testing, which is why mike asked.
From what I have gathered here, it seems you weren't at a risk.

However to eliminate any doubt, given the time frame of your test, you have tested conclusively negative. Also, your test was one of the most sensitive ones available to diagnose HIV infection.

Your negative has ruled out the presence of this virus. This test looks for antibodies to HIV 1 and 2 and core viral protein called p24 ag for HIV 1. This test covers group M of type 1, the most prevalant subtype group with subtypes A1, A2, A3, A4, B, C, D, F1, F2, G, H, J, K, M, O and N subtypes associated with type 1 &  for type 2 - group A and B from group A to H since only those 2 are pandemic. There are no further HIV types and strains for you to worry about.

It's time for you to move on.
