Hear heartbeat in ear intermittently

Hello!  When I lay down at night & sometimes during the day I can hear my heartbeat in my ear. It sounds like an swoosh heartbeat. Only lasts a few seconds and usually stops when I switch positions. I’m a relatively healthy 41 year old female. Low Bp but elevated cholesterol. Should I be concerned?  This has been happening off and on for like 5 years. I had a cat scan 2 years ago that didn’t show anything.

Hello~I don't think it is anything to worry about, especially since your doctor has checked you and said all is well. I am glad, however, that you are letting her know again, it is always best to be safe than sorry. I have had something similar, but it didn't last long, I think mine was due to stress.

I will hear that as well from time to time. This could be pulsatile tinnitus.  How is your blood pressure? You've been evaluated for coronary artery disease?  You are very young, so would not really think this is going on. But bring it up to your doctor.  Just to get checked. The ceratoid artery is in that area.  If your cholesterol is high enough, that can cause pulsatile tinnitus. Normally, my doctor has said not to worry about it.  But your doctor should be aware that this is happening to you.  High BP is one reason this will happen.  Hypertension is familial. https://www.health.harvard.edu/diseases-and-conditions/is-it-worrisome-to-hear-a-pulse-in-my-ear

I will let her know again. She listened to my carotid arteries and didn’t hear anything like a bruit.  My bp is super low. I have been worked up cardiac wise bc of family history but everything came back fine. I had a cat scan of my neck done two years ago. That too was ok. I’m so frustrated.
Well, the good news is you got a work up and it was all fine!  It could be nothing and it happens to me too sometimes.  I am prone to high blood pressure though so I attribute it to that underlying reason.  If all is fine though in your work ups, it could be a fluke.  Talk to your doctor and make sure they are aware. Let me know what they say.
