How come I can make my heart palpitate using this maneuver?

How come I am able to make my heart palpitate on cue? Like when I hold my breath, and try squeeze or push down the part where my tongue meets my esophagus, I get heart palpitations. Then when I release, my rhythm goes back to normal. Is this because that is a maneuver that simulates the vagus nerve?
