What is causing higher heart rate while sleeping?

So my resting heart rate while awake and still for a few minutes is 68-70.

I haven’t been sleeping well and the whole time I sleep my heart rate is in the upper 80’s and 90’s. My oxygen saturation has never dropped below 94% wile sleeping. It’s always 100% when awake and/or moving around.

What the heck could be causing that?

Hello and thank you for the question.  We appreciate it and always recommend checking in with your doctor.  Are you going through an anxious time or under a lot of stress or emotional pressure? This can be a reason for what you describe.  Another common cause is obstructive sleep apnea which leads to lack of oxygen.  Something else that can cause a rise in heart rate during the night is a dropping blood sugar.   I know you are checking your oxygen but need to mention that.  However, since it can also be associated with underlying coronary artery disease, it really is best to discuss this with your doctor to rule that out. By the way, are you taking any medications?  And how are you tracking this?

Thanks. I check it at work with an O2 sat monitor, and I use an Apple Watch 6. I am extremely anxious and have been having a rough time for the past 3 weeks.
