Hi there. Sodium or salt is one of those tricky things in that there is so much in our food that we may not even know. Secret salt, I call it. A can of tomatoes or a can of soup can be very high in sodium! To answer your question, 200 mg of salt a day is not too much. Actually the guideline from the American Heart Association is up to 2300 mg of salt a day! Now, that's the upper range of being 'okay' and you should check with your doctor for where they want you to be. If you have hypertension, they may want you intake to be lower than that. Have you ever heard of the DASH diet? It's a way of eating that helps with blood pressure and takes sodium/salt into account. It's hard to get away from salt but possible to control out intake if we make the effort. Here's some general information on sodium in our diet and guidelines. https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/sodium/art-20045479 Here's information on the DASH diet: https://www.medicinenet.com/the_dash_diet/article.htm (always check with your doctor before beginning a new diet or exercise program especially if you have hypertension). Let me know what you think!
