Sunday Weigh in - February 6, 2022

Good morning.  Our bright sunny cold from last week has turned into dark and dreary rain for today.  Fortunately, it's not terribly cold, though the wind and dampness make it feel colder than the thermometer says it is.

Anyway, it's been a quiet week here and I haven't accomplished much at all.  I did consult with the ocular plastic surgeon last week to see about removing my drooping eyelids.  He says I qualify for the surgery and it sounds like he would be removing a pretty good sized piece of skin from each eyelid.  So I'm waiting for them to call me to schedule the surgery.  Nobody mentioned how long that would take so I called back on Friday to ask about it.  I was told that the scheduler calls people in the order in which the doctor saw them and it can sometimes take up to 2 weeks to get a call back.  Wow - there must be a lot of people getting this surgery!!   I'm guessing I might not even get scheduled until some time in March or maybe even April, but we'll have to see.

I've managed to drop 3 of the pounds I put on while we were in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago.  Again, I'm sure that was fluid retention because of all the salty food we ate while we were gone.   I've been having the terrible cramps in my feet, legs and hands again lately, so I've started doing some simple stretching exercises to help stretch my muscles in hopes they will stop cramping so badly.   Now that I spend more time doing calligraphy, that means I spend more time sitting so I'm not "on the go" as much as I was before.  I'm still trying to get back into a daily walking routine, but with the cold and rain, that's kind of hard to do.

Anyway, I'm down by the 3 lbs so I'll take that for this week and hope I can drop another pound over the week.

So, how was your week?  I hope you were able to meet/exceed whatever goal(s) you set for yourself.

~~Wishing everyone a wonderful, successful week~~

We've got sunshine and it's in the 50s today; weather report says this will continue all week. I'm pleased because we have to paint a new gutter at our new house and do some touch-up on the back fence at the old house so it looks good when the house goes on the market. If we had a normally rainy winter, the chance to do any outdoor painting would be nil, but we've been catching these little patches of 50-degree weather here and there. I used the last temperature break to paint a spot on the front door where the neighbor's spraying cat had left a big mark. (I had washed it off when it happened with enzymatic cleaner, but it had actually carved into the paint.) If he comes back and does it again before we put the house up for sale, I'm going to be mad!

That droopy-eyelids surgery sounds great. My dad had a sagging lower eyelid, but by the time his doctor ever got around to suggesting that it would do him good to have it repaired (because it made his eye water constantly), Dad just couldn't wrap his mind around having surgery for something like that. I hope that once the scheduler calls you, the wait times are not that long.

My weight came down this week. I'm right about where I've been plateaued for the last few months, maybe a few tenths of a pound less. Just have to keep concentrating on good food habits and stay away from the sweets! I did find a good set of yoga exercises for one's core. If my knees didn't hurt so much I'd be doing more of them. (There are crystals in the fluid in my kneecaps, sometimes it hurts worse than other times and this week I've been limping in the mornings.) Advil is my friend.

Have a great week!

Yay for your sunshine.  I just had an e-mail from my friend in Portland and she was happy with sunshine as well.   It's been cloudy and chilly (high of 54°) here all day.  Like y'all in OR - I can remember days in Iowa that we'd have been thrilled with 50° weather.  Enjoy it while you can and I do hope you get your painting done.   Grrrr - I'd be angry if a neighbor's cat sprayed on my front door, as well.   To me - there's little worse or harder to get rid of than cat pee.

Yes, I think I'm going to be really happy once I have the eyelid surgery.  The surgeon said that could easily be why my eyes feel so tired all the time - with all the extra skin, there's extra weight as well which makes it hard to hold my eyes open.  I'm so hoping it makes a difference in my "tiredness".  I'm so sorry your dad's doctor wasn't on top of things.  If he had eye issues because of the drooping lids his doctor should have told him to get it checked.  It was actually my pcp who recommended that I talk to my eye doctor about it because he did a simple field vision test - the "tell me when you see my finger" thing and I couldn't see his finger until it was almost in front of me.  Of course, I had to go for an 'official" field vision test, but it did show that my peripheral vision is considerably less than it should be so that affects my driving, plus the weight of the eyelids affects my reading because it's hard to keep my eyes open.   I, too, hope that once the scheduler calls me, it won't be a long wait, but we'll have to see.

It's unfortunate that you've plateaued for so long, but I guess that's better than gaining like I've done.  I'm glad you looked up yoga exercises and found some that will work for you.  I'm sorry to hear about the crystals in your kneecaps - sometimes, yoga can actually help those things, but sometimes not.  Is there something they can do to dissolve the crystals or does it require surgery?   Advil (ibuprofen) is great for pain, but can be pretty hard on the tummy... it might be a good idea to alternate between advil and tylenol.  OR you can try an OTC "ointment" called Voltaren.  It used to be only prescription, but is now available in most drug stores OTC.  The main ingredient is Dichlofenac.  It does work for pain and has become my friend.  :-)

Good luck with the yoga and the knee pain.  Enjoy your week.
