Can't breathe!

My husband can't breathe.  Has had every possible test on heart and lungs and they're fine.  Yes he has a belly and is about 50 overweight but wasn't when this started.  Morbidly obese people can move and breathe better than he can.  All the drs. say (and we've seen many) is that he's fat.  Even tried getting into Mayo but they don't take our insurance.  We just are lost.  Retirement is suppose to be fun.

Peaches, I am so sorry about your husband. Did they ever understand why this was happening? Very sorry for your loss.

Hi, I am a respiratory therapy student. I agree with what specialmom was saying here "I am sure they've suggested losing some weight. So hard but maybe worth a try.  Also, lack of activity and exercise can be part of it. Which is hard and even scary to do when you have shortness of breath." and there recommendation of getting a stress test done. I Highly recommend losing weight when some one is over wight it usually causes compression of the chest making it difficult to breathe. I would also recommend seeing if he maybe can get an allergy test done he might even perhaps be asthmatic. Allergies can always form no matter what age you are.

To you both, thank you for commenting.  In your studies, please keep in mind that you cannot exercise when you cannot walk 20 feet without catching your breath.  Also, Have you seen the shows of the morbidly obese people?  They weigh 600-700 pounds and can walk without carrying a chair with them. He weighed 250!!!  Do you not think all tests were done at a university hospital and yet no one can figure out why!!!  Always!!! Always!!! do an scan!!!!.  His lungs were full of clots and he was sent home.  X-rays do NOT show clots only cat-scans.  I had his funeral yesterday.  Please, please do not always focus on weight!!! A clot left his lung and hit his heart as they were getting ready...again... to send him home!!!!
I am deeply sorry to hear this!!!! My own boyfriend weighs 230 lbs. Water consumption and moving is very important for all ages to prevent clotting of blood. The average person is meant to consume like 3 liters of water a day. This keeps the blood thin and easy to pump though the body. I understand this is a extremely hard time for you. If you want someone to talk to, I am here. I am trying to find ways to help my boyfriend to move and exercise too but it is especially hard with one of his knees being bad.

Gosh, I'm super sorry to hear this.  That's frustrating.  You know something is wrong but no one gives usable help, diagnosis, suggestions!  I guess on the plus side, his heart and lungs appear fine.  When you say he can't breath, what's going on?  Is it upon exertion or resting?  That also stinks about the Mayo Clinic.  Sometimes they have self pay and if you have a large deductible, it can be less than that deductible. So, might be worth checking on.  But have you ever heard of the Cleveland Clinic? They are also stellar.  https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/symptoms/16942-shortness-of-breath-dyspnea  I am sure they've suggested losing some weight. So hard but maybe worth a try.  Also, lack of activity and exercise can be part of it. Which is hard and even scary to do when you have shortness of breath. Does he walk or anything like that?  I assume he's had a stress test at a cardiologist?
