How does someone determine if they suffered brain damage from past beatings?

My husband (now deceased) used to hit me on my head, very hard. He slammed my head into the ground a few times. I’ve not been performing as well at my job, and it occurred to me today that I may have suffered brain damage from those occurrences.

How do you determine if brain damage is present? What doctors should I start with? Is it possible that this is PTSD, and that I’ll work through it with my therapist?

Any of the outcomes you mentioned are possible.  If you want to determine if brain damage has occurred, you would make an appointment with your GP or a neurologist, who can order brain scans to determine whether there's any detectable damage.

Thank you. I'll start there. I'm concerned that I'm losing my memory.
