Sunday Weigh in November 6, 2022

Good afternoon... well, once again, it's been a hectic day and I'm very late posting.  As you know, I returned last weekend from a trip to SD for a funeral and I've been playing "catch up" all week.  I thought I'd be caught up by now, but things didn't go as I'd planned, so here I am...

Anyway, I've been busy making pens - yes, ink pens.  I've had a rather large order and several smaller ones from people who want to give them for Christmas gifts.  I've been making pens for about 4 yrs now and the holidays are, usually, my busiest time because they make such nice gifts.  Anyway, by the time Christmas rolls around, I will probably have made/sold somewhere close to 50 pens and pencils in just a couple of months.

Last week, I reported that I'd gained a pound during my trip - not surprising since I was riding so much of the time, with no opportunity for exercise.  I won't mention that I was eating 3 full meals most days when I, typically, only eat 2 meals/day at home.

So - since I've been back, I've been walking everyday (except today), along with being on my feet all day in my shop.  Because of that, I've managed to lose that pound I gained, so I'm good with that.

I've run into some issues with my feet and hands - I've had a cyst on my right foot for a while.  It seemed to have broken, but now it's back again.  In addition, my neuropathy has really been kicking up lately.  My hands cramp really bad and joints are very painful.  Just before I left for my SD trip, my doctor had ordered some x-rays on my right foot and both hands.   According to the x-rays, I have some bone spurs on, both, my foot and hands.  I've no doubt the diagnosis will be arthritis - not unusual for my age.  I'm hoping my doctor will be willing to order blood test to rule out Rheumatoid Arthritis, which is autoimmune and tends to be more progressive (and painful) than osteoarthritis.   The doctor mentioned doing physical therapy for my hands, as well as some sort of heat therapy for my foot.  He also mentioned that he might have to give me a cortisone shot in my left hand to help with the pain.   He gave me cortisone shots in my shoulders when I had frozen shoulder - I have to say, they did the trick!!

Anyway, because my feet have been hurting so much lately, I took a break from walking this morning.  They do feel some better, but not as good as I'd like!!  I'll see what happens after I walk tomorrow!!  I'm wondering if the impact of walking 2-3 miles/day is more than my feet want to deal with!!

So - that's where I am right now.  I'm happy to have lost that pound (again), but I'm learning that there are worse things than weight to deal with.

So how are you doing?  I hope you had a good week and the weekend has been enjoyable.  I hope you've been able to meet/exceed whatever goal(s) you set for yourself.

~~Wishing everyone a wonderful week~~

Barb, if it's a cyst, it will probably need to have the sac removed, not just for the contents to drain, or it will just fill up again. (You may thank "Dr. Pimple Popper" for this bet of medical insight. She says it every time she cleans one out. lol)

I weighed two days ago and this morning, unusual for me because I try to weigh only once a week so as not to get obsessive about it. But I'm glad I did because I went down .7 of a pound in that time. Halloween was not good for me this year. We had candies out in a big bowl that I didn't put away after the big night, so every time I walked by it seems, I'd help myself to a "fun sized" Tootsie Roll. They aren't very many calories in one (I think like 25), but after enough trips by the cauldron I'd be adding 200 calories a day to my intake. The reason I weighed was because I finally noticed that due to my absent-minded Tootsie snacking, my stomach was sticking out again (after a lot of work over the past months to get it to go down.) So I took myself in hand, and now am seeing that the sugar tummy does go down as well as go up if I work on it. More self-discipline and I should be OK; my target is to lose about 2 lbs. in this next week.

I've had the sort of questionable pleasure of buying clothing on eBay this past week, since I have to attend a family funeral. It's been three years since I've given my wardrobe any kind of a re-think. But along with appropriate black dresses and jackets, I'd also see something to replace a ratty old item presently in my wardrobe, (for example, a still-new cashmere v-neck sweater to replace the pilly old one I wear all the time that has paint on it and is developing bare elbows and a hole under the arm). I'm not squeamish about buying used clothes (even clothes I have bought new are "used clothes" once I have worn them), and my goodness, the bargains are pennies on the dollar on name-brand stuff. I would never own any of those fancy labels if I had to buy the clothes retail. So boxes and padded envelopes have been appearing at the house this past week, and I have new [to me] skirts, jackets, shoes and even a pair of suede boots. Some were misses (apparently I don't know exactly what size I am) but some were hits. A few more are coming, and then I can organize it all and see how I fared and get rid of some of the worst stuff I presently wear.

Hope everyone has a good week!
