Sunday Weigh in January 29, 2023

Good morning.  How is everyone today?  I hope you're doing great.  It looks like it's going to be another beautiful day here - warmer than the past couple have been.

It's been kind of a busy week for me, but I feel like I've spun my wheels a lot.  Husband was gone all week - due home in about an hour, so I only had my own schedule to deal with.  Was nice!!

I'm still wearing the boot on my foot - hope to get out of it when I see the doctor on Wed.  I think I'll be "graduating" to some sort of ankle brace with a "sturdy shoe" - can wait to see what that shoe might be like - I bet it's all kinds of sexy!!  :-)

Anyway, being by myself, I have tried to stay off the foot more than I had been so I hope that might have helped it heal a bit more.   So - staying off the foot means I haven't been moving around as much as I was and also means I've gained back a couple pounds that I'd lost previously.  I tend to think it's more fluid than fat, because my fingers have felt puffy and stiff like they do when I'm retaining fluid.  So, I'll have to try to get rid of those pounds - whatever they consist of.

I do have busy week coming up, so that will mean a bit more activity.  I took another calligraphy class yesterday and hope to have time to practice the style as I didn't really do so well.  I did have some trouble with my fingers cramping up, so that was part of the problem.

Anyway, I'm off to get a few things done before husband gets home.  I hope this finds everyone doing well and hope you were able to meet/exceed your goals last week.

~Wishing everyone a wonderful, successful week~

Barb, glad to hear the boot might get the boot this upcoming week! Will cross fingers for the sturdy shoe not looking like an orthopedic horror.

It's lovely here today too, clear and very cold. That beats it being grey and socked in with a thermal inversion, like we had all last week. Husband took the dogs to the dog park, and his hands were cold despite gloves. I don't think it will be over 30 degrees for the next few days.

This morning I'm 1.4 lbs. down from last week, a nice thing given that I'd been putting on small dabs of weight in the last few weeks. I've been pretty alert about eating a smaller serving, then seeing if I'm full. Got that from the cat ... she came in fussing because she was hungry, though she eats every time she comes in, and she's in and out all day. I only had a little bit left of the kind of kibbles she eats, so I gave those to her (it might have been two tablespoons of food if that). She ate it, and instead of continuing to fuss, went away and took a nap.  "It's empty so I must have had enough," was clearly in her mind. I thought that was pretty neat. Lots is written about "portion control" in dieting, but nobody writes about the fact that we take a lot of hunger cues from the state of our plate. If we've been eating, and now our plate is empty, we must be done.

Husband wants to go to brunch -- out we go in the pretty weather to have a nice one. Have a great week!

Yes, I'm certainly hoping the boot gets the boot this week.   I'm wondering if I wear a pair of sneakers to my appointment, the doctor might consider that "sturdy" enough and let me get by with that.   If I have to wear the orthopedic nightmare, I hope they give a pair, so my feet, at least match!!

When we lived in Iowa, clear and cold, was always something I could handle because it would be sunny and bright, even if there was snow on the ground.  I used to turn off the furnace and open window on clear, cold days just to get fresh air in the house, after being closed up for  months.  I get the cold hands, in spite of gloves.  I think they have really light weight ones, now that are supposed to keep the hands toasty.   Wow - not over 30° - that's pretty cold, but if it stays clear, it's "doable"... lol

Congratulations on your 1.4 lbs down - so that's where my gain came from, huh?  You sent your loss all the way across the country!!    LOL

You're absolutely right about the portion control issue - it's a big thing in the diet world.  I used to figure out what a portion was, then eat only that much... depending on the food, it was enough, but sometimes not.  You have to pay attention to the size of the portions in order for that to work.  I did it for a while but got frustrated with a portion that's "fist sized" because I have small hands and my fist size isn't very big.   "It's empty so I must have had enough," is something I need to pay more attention to.  On the other hand, I was raised to clean my plate, so if I haven't eaten everything on it, I'm not finished eating.   And of course, there are the second helpings!!

I hope you had a wonderful brunch and enjoyed a beautiful. if cold, day.

Enjoy your week.
