Popping sensation in head followed by sharp pain?

This morning I started getting a popping/pulsating feeling on the right hand side of my head, just above my ear. It happened 2-3 times and didn't last more than 30 seconds. However now, I can feel a slight pressure on that side, and sometimes get sharp, sudden pains. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be?

The first time this happened, it was loud, and the area was very sore and tender for a few days.
Thought it was new medicine .
Stopped taking it and it continues to happen and are more frequent , sometime I get slightly dizzy., and off balance.
I am scarred .
My vision is fine and my hearing is fine.
No  headaches follow, no other symptoms .

My 7 year old has been having a popping in the front Left side of her head since she was 2 and always in the same place. It is not often she gets them and they only last for about 30 seconds but this last one gave her a bad headache that followed and that hasn't happened before. The activity is never the same and has been at different times of the day. Last one was when she was yesterday watching a movie at home.

Mayakeller,
It sounds like you're experiencing what my 9 and 11 year olds are experiencing. They get a pop that vibrates and hurts and lasts for about 30 seconds to a minute. I'm trying to figure this out. The both have a connective tissue disorder called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and I wonder if it's related. Does anyone else who experiences this have vascular or other issues?

Did you ever find out what this was? My 12 year old son has experienced this a few times in the last few months. Each time he’s been doing something different, I’m concerned there is a blood vessel problem in the back of his brain.

I had also had one night where I sharp pain near my sternum on the left side right under my left breast. It hurt. I haven't told anyone. I have heart murmur my whole life, and wasn't really sure if that had anything to my headaches either.

Hi, I'm am 19-female, and I'm average for weight and height. I have had headaches and migraines my whole life, but on Sept. 1st through Sept 4th (the night I went to hospital), I have had a painful headache. I still have it and every now and then the medicine that my dr. put me on helps sometimes, but the amitrix, makes me fall asleep and does nothing. I have started to have popping sensation in my head and I get dizzy very easily. I'm tired all the time and I feel miserable. I am trying to attend school which is not helping the situation. My mom and I are going to a neurologist dec. 19th, I was put on antibiotics by my area doctor thinking it was infection and it went away for a little bit and  came back. My mom is trying to keep my stress done, as went I to the hospital it was really high, but it was mostly for the pain. They gave me shots, they lasted three hours and my headache reoccur the next day as I was driving to school (pm), driving to Iowa.). I really want to know what this is and how to get rid it of it. My doctor did a blood test and the first it came out low on red/white blood cells, next time those were normal, but my iron was low. I have even started to have allergic reaction to food that in our cafe, where I eat at for every meal pretty much, that part has just started. Even my moods are changing and  my mom is really trying to help me with this situation. Any advice?

I am having the same exact thing I am 13 years old and I have mostly had head popping all my life it used to happen 2-3 a year now it happens maybe 3 times a week. I know I'm a little young to be on this but I have the right to know what it is. It starts as it pops and it feels like a lot a pressure when it happens at the left side of my head and it always happens in the same spot. And after it pops a sharp pain comes it lasts like 30 seconds. And my head dosent feel right for the rest of the day. I went to a doctor and she said it was from stress but I do not think she is right sometimes when I am really happy it happens so it can't be from stress. No one understands and I think there is something wrong with me please does anyone knows what this is please comment if you do

My daughter is experiencing some of the same things.  She is just 15 years old and she has been diagnosed with exercise induced asthma.  She does have issues with sinuses but it has been nothing to really worry about.  She often tells me that she would get a popping sensation in her head and then the headache would follow.  There has been one time that she stated she couldn't see for about 10 seconds after the episode.  I have spoken with her doctor about this and she does not seem to be worried since she does have sinus problems.  I am worried because she is rally worried about it.  She seems to deal with it fairly well when she is in the midst of physical activity but as soon as she calms down, it really hits her.

Hi,

This could be stress, lack of sleep and excessive fatigue. I would also suggest you to get your BP checked as high BP can also cause popping sensations in the head.

Hope this helps!

Hi Jain,

I am a 30 year old, and in the last 7 months I have noticed similar things that Aroz listed.  I am not a high-stress person, I am quite the opposite and work at a desk.  About 6 months ago I was sitting at my desk and had a sharp pain behind my sternum, followed by a breif period of dizziness.  I didn't like it at all, went outside immediately and called my physician - they panicked, and then found out I was only 29, and cancelled all alarms.  I went in, the doctor said I had a very very slight heart murmur, but that otherwise I was fine.

I do some physical activity, and do not have any trouble getting my heart rate up, and do not have any trouble performing in physical activities.

The reason I looked this up just now is because I was sitting in my chair, slouching, yawning, and working.  I again had the sharp pain in my chest, this time located on the upper left side and it traveled up through my shoulder (felt like one painful heartbeat).   I was not dizzy, but I again didn't like the feeling.  The pain lasted maybe 5-10 seconds (residual), and if I were to rate it 1-10, was probably 3.5 - 4.

Please let me know if this is something I should be worried about.  I have had other times where I felt something, but it was never anything that would register on a Pain scale, just something I take note of as I haven't felt things like that in the past.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Did you ever find anything else out? Or is it just stress and anxiety?

I too seem to get these occasionally and deal with the same situation - 6 hours sleep a day and a bit of stress during the day.

Hi Aroz,
It will definitely help if you take serial readings of your blood pressure over period of time and show to it doctors.
Yes, Stress and anxiety can do this. Stress is the condition that results when person-environment transactions lead the individual to perceive a discrepancy, whether real or not, between the demands of a situation and the resources of the person's biological, psychological or social systems. Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress.
I think you need to do yoga, relaxation and meditation to ease yourself.
Keep me informed if you have any queries.
Hope this helps.
Bye.

Hello,
Thank you for your reply. I'm 21 years old, slightly overweight and deal with a lot of (mostly self-inflicted) stress in my life. I've taken my blood pressure before on my parent's monitor and at times the readings come of with mild hypertension. Could too much stress and not enough sleep also be factors? I'm weary about going to the doctors because everytime I go to see them they put my symptoms down to anxiety (as i've had some pretty bad problems with it in the past.) Do you think if I record my blood pressure over a period of time and take it to them they might be more open minded?

Hi,
Your symptoms of sharp, sudden localized headache which is pulsating suggests that it could be headache associated with vascular disorders.
The causes of such a headache can be acute ischemic cerebrovascular disorder, Intracranial hematoma, Subarachnoid hemorrhage, Unruptured vascular malformation, Arteritis, Carotid or vertebral artery pain, Venous thrombosis or it can be due to Arterial hypertension.
I think you should be seeing a Cardiologist to rule out any hypertension or cardiovascular disorder.
You should also be seeing a neurologist to rule out any cerebrovascular malformations.
Keep me informed.
Bye.
