I'm so glad I'm not the only one! but when things go fast for me I hear screaming (not real, all in my head) like people are getting hurt? it's multiple people screaming and i imagine it's what hell sounds like (I know that's not nice at all but that's the only way I can describe it). i don't know if this is the same to everyone else's, as everyone has exactly the same symptoms except for me? :( I'm only 14 and this started when I was around 10 or 11. it went away for a few years but now it's back?
Can people stop posting now and a real doctor answer any of these comments? This must be documented somewhere. It is intriguing. What is this feeling? Were we all abducted by aliens? Is this spirutual? I said people should stop posting but I will add my experiences. Had this since a youngin. Now I am 23 and they are less frequent.
Feels like this:
- Thoughts racing faster
- Hearing sounds more clear, louder
- Walking feels very fast even if I try to move slow on purpose, still somewhat feels too fast.
- Eye movements seem a lot more speedy, as do head tilting
- Talking to myself in my head feels like talking loud / screaming
- Moving hands around feels like all muscles are tense and are very precise
- Feeling alert like after much caffeine
- Feeling heart beat more
I also get a sense that I "MUST" move faster and do things faster for some reason. I'm sure I appear normal to other people despite this feeling. I once tried to exercise but it made no difference, but felt like I can do anything without getting tired.
When does it happen:
- Randomly for no reason, outside or inside, could be sitting down by desk or doing something else.
How long it lasts;
- Anything between 3 - 20 minutes ?
When it ends:
- Feels normal, slower, more "boring" again, feels like "exhaling" that speedy mood out of my soul.
Hey I'm 13 I haven't put much thought into this when it happened to me all the time since I could remember the past two years it hadn't happened much but when it does I can hear everything going on and can think but every things fast and I have this weird wave of adrenaline and I got scared cuz it happened a few times in school and I don't know if I act any different when it happened it doesn't even last that long contact me on facebook if u need to my names Paige Heiser interested in any information
It is scary indeed! I had it all of a sudden now while preparing some ingredients for dinner. And I try to do it in slow motion but somehow it's just looks fast to me. I tested my pulse rate it's normal within the range of 70-80.
My brain is seemingly confused ! I feel like It's not my brain at all connecting to my body. It's very scary to have this weird symptoms.
Never has it since the past few yrs. My first encounter was when I was sick down with a fever and I could see d fan is moving just on top of my head almost slashing me like those 3D's movies.
Then many yrs later I had been experiencing it however it's only once or twice in a year, I couldn't remember as they r not often. And again now after so long of not experiencing it.
However, I had my chiropractic adjustment done last 4 days and I was sneezing badly the very next day and my under jaw, forehead, eyes, back of my head hurts. It's like I have hurt my whole head with those sneezes. My ears are aching too. When I press onto the sides of my ears where the jaw bones are located, it hurts. And I could feel a few branches of nerves along these areas down to my neck, from the back of the ears. And that also hurts. Did I hurt my nervous systems ? And causing my brain to receive wrong signals from my nerves?
So far never experience it before after all my chiro treatments for 3 months. I have had imbalances, dizziness, blurry vision, where the specialists couldn't help with giving me a correct diagnosis instead I felt improvements through chiropractic adjustments. Which I suppose it's related to the nervous system whereby my upper cervical spine has some subluxation on my c2. Where it's already rotated from the x ray.
Also I have a mild scoliosis seen from x ray too. With history of cervical spondylosis from c4-c6 level. Also remarks from x ray shows early lumbar spondylosis and a mildly rotated pelvic bone .
I'm only 28 this year which my chiropractor says it's not common though for a young person like me to have all these issues.
I used to experience the same feelings. for myself it was due to manic depression or bipolar disorder, your situation may be different I am only suggesting the possibility that what you're experiencing is due to bipolar Mania. during a manic episode you will feel no need to sleep it's possible you will even not want to sleep, what you're experiencing may be racing thoughts.when that happened to me it used to only happen once every week or every two weeks but the Mania would happen very often I would go a day or two days sometimes three whole days and nights with no sleep and feel no exhaustion. as well as major depression, I am not a doctor so I am only suggesting the possibility of bipolar disorder.it would be wise to see a psychiatrist, rather than just your average family doctor.as I said just a suggestion.good luck I hope all ends up well for you
I get the same feeling all the time but I cant explain why it happens I Try to tell my parents but they know what it is I though I was the only one but now I know not but,, I really want to know what it is ????
I've been getting this since I can remember. I've already delt with many pretty scary sleep paralysis episodes but I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I also have been diagnosed with anxiety, and have done many online searches on "what it means when you feel like life isn't real" but I don't know if those things are connected to this either. Just 5 minutes ago I was sitting in my bed doing homework and everything in my head started moving quicker. It was as if I was talking to myself in my head but just in a super fast pace and none of the sentences were making sense and I couldn't actually make out any of the words. Of all the times I've had this since I was little, this is the most intense it's ever been. I tried looking around the room and taking a drink of water in an attempt to snap my brain back but it just went away on its own a moment later. I've never had it for more than a minute or two. Thinking back now, I'm pretty sure I've had an opposite episode where everything moved slower, but those were only ever for a couple seconds. After all these years, I'm happy I'm not the only one experiencing this. I feel like if I tried to explain this in person to somebody it would make no sense at all and nobody would take me serious.
Ive dealt with this my whole life and I am 21 now and still it happens to me. It is terrifying. I went to the doctor and they tried to tell me it was an anxiety or panic attack and it doesnt feel like that to me. My best advice to help ease your mind when this happens is take a deep breath and slowly count backwards from ten a few times and try to sit down while doing this an clear your mind. I hope things get better for you! The key is to reconnect and slow your brain energy down to get the fast paced craze to go away. It is hard for anyone who doesnt understand what youre going through to understand what you are talking about and what you are going through.
Hi girl, I'm Dave.
This thing happening to me since I was small. And it has disappeared for sometime, and it came back now. Now means not now but some time a ago. And I'm 23 now. I had all the feelings you had before. It's creepy but don't get nervous. You no what it's all about your mind, when it's happening you have to stay calm, breath well and stay focused, best way is just close your eyes and stay calm.
But I think you are someone lucky, u no what I usually got this thing when I'm riding bike. Just imagine how I would feel. It happens when I'm riding. But I just keep calm and try to overcome by myself. I keep calm and silent even close my eyes for those things to go off.. If you keep calm it won't remain so long most probably it will last long some minutes only.
Meditation is the best way to cure this motion. And let me tell you something this speed or fast or anything can't be totally stopped but can control by yourself.
Hell yeah, remember this girl. We are someone special then anyone. So chill and enjoy.
Don't forget to be calm and fight with it.
Hope this post will help you.
*with my own experience
May God bless you
That is exactly what happens to me. I'm 13 yrs old. It has been happening since I was like 6, and I thought I was the only one. It always feels like everything is going in fast motion, sounds are louder, and even my thoughts are racing. I feel as if I'm going really fast, but at the same time I don't. The time they last is different every time; I've had them only last for a couple minutes and the longest is 20 minutes. I don't really mind them that much, but they can be distracting and I can't really focus and it messes me up when I'm doing school work.
I do have major anxiety, but they only happen when I'm calm and relaxed or doing work.
Whenever I try to explain it to somebody they always laugh at me, even my mom.
I really hate coffee, and the only caffeinated drinks that I have are chai tea and tea's that have caffeine, and I don't really drink those that often. So, I don't think that's the reason why I have them.
Thank you for your time.
It's so weird sitting here reading all of these comments, most of which explain exactly the feelings I get. I think I've tried Googling it a while back but couldn't find anything, or maybe I didn't know what to type.
It's like everything is going fast but slow, and it doesn't last long for me but the only thing I can do to feel any better is lay down and close my eyes (sometimes block my ears) until it goes away. I also hear the loud noises like some people, I could never figure out what it was, sometimes I thought it was talking but going so fast I couldn't understand, but it was weird. Even when it was quiet, it was loud.
The first time I can remember getting it was when I was about 6 or 7, it was late at night and I was in the car with my mum. I had no idea, still don't know, what it is. Maybe brought on by tiredness? I used to get them now and then, then more frequently over time and especially last year, but they've settled recently, come to think of it I haven't felt it in a little while.
Reading the comments, I'm really interested to ask if my parents ever felt it! I think I've tried to (really poorly) explain to my mum and ask if she knows what I'm talking about, but I don't think I've ever asked my dad.
Anyways, yeah I never knew if it was tiredness, anxiety, but it's interesting and nice (not nice but, you know) that someone else feels how I'm feeling because I've never come across it before.
Wow. I used to get this when I was young, about 5-8 I think. I think my sister did too. My Dad definitely did. My Mum didn't know what we were talking about!
Luckily my Dad did so I thought of it as just an annoying thing that happened like growing pains.
It only happened when I was about to fall asleep.
The only way to get rid of it was to walk really fast or run down the hallway. Ie. Not be sleepy. Then I would snap out of it.
I remember the loud noise thing but more so, the weird sensation that rough was smooth and smooth was rough. This came first.
I grew out of it.
I don't remember it being linked to stress at all, just growing - like growing pains you get in your legs as a kid.
I have had anxiety / depression issues in my adult years but I think a lot of people do. Don't think it's related
Bizarre that there is no name for it as it's a very freaky sensation . I told a few doctors- they checked my heart beat then said they didn't know...
Luckily my Dad understood so I just waited for it to pass. He didn't make a fuss, no biggie, so I didn't worry about it ( it was just annoying). His laid back attitude helped , in hindsight.
Your not crazy people.
I see you posted this back in 2012. My 8 yr old daughter is having these same exact episodes. They started 6 months ago & had them quite often for about 3 months. Took her to the Dr & they had no idea what it is. They seemed to stop for a while but are back now. They scare her to death & me as well since I feel like I can't help her when it's happening. She says everything is moving super fast & she hears a loud sound in her head & tells me to quit talking to her because I sound weird. She won't let me touch her either & says that feels weird too. She cries & covers her ears with her hands & begs me to make it stop. I feel so sad & helpless when she has an episode. I have taken her to Dr. A few times but she says it's very hard to explain & she's not sure what makes them happen. They seem to come out of no where but right before it happens I can see a change in her eyes like a blank Ness & fear. She then starts to cry & says mommy it's happening again. Do you have any suggestions for me to help her through these epidodes? They want me to take her to a psychiatrist but after finding this sight it seems there is no cure or even a name for these feelings that are happening to her. I wish someone knew exactly what it was so I could help her & put her mind at ease. She is scared to death of the feeling it gives her. Any advice you have would greatly help. I know she isn't just making this up because I can see it in her eyes & I can see just how frightened she is when the sensation comes over her. It is out of no where too. We can be driving in the car or playing outside or anywhere & they come on all of a sudden. What a horrible thing to have to live with especially as a child. I feel terrible for her as well as the rest of you all with the same stories on here. I'm so glad I found this site.
These post made me cry. Finally, after all these years, I no longer think I'm the only one who experiences this...I don't feel so alone anymore. I'm 49 and have been doing this my whole life. I can remember as young as 3 having these episodes. They're hard to explain and I've tried to tell people but they don't understand. It's like everything is speeded up but I'm going slow except if I talk it seems like I'm talking way too fast. Music seems to be going too fast, other peoples speech, movements, animals... everything! Like things aren't proportioned in time right...like Alice in Wonderland. It's really hard to explain. I can usually tell immediately before it comes on - there's a song, a pattern of music that always is associated with it and I can't think of the pattern when I'm not in it but if I do recollect the pattern it'll put me back into it. I know that doesn't make much sense but I don't know how else to describe it. Does anyone else experience that? The only thing that's worked for me to come out of it is listening to a song with a good beat that I know well so I can get my timing back down to where it should be. The episodes used to be super scary. They're still really freaky and it makes life challenging at times because I never know when this will happen until about 5 seconds prior. Does anyone know what this is? I don't believe is a panic attack add I've witnessed those and it is not the same nor am I necessarily anxious when they occur. Thanks. Xoxo
Finally a community of people experiencing the same symptoms as me! Here I just thought I was one crazy mother f*****. I've had this fast paced feeling since I was 13, but never told anyone about it. I didn't know how to describe it or mention it. I also suffer from anxiety disorder, and chronic migraines, so when these fast motions kick in when I'm getting ready or jamming out to my jams of the day, I go into a complete spiral. I just experienced one this morning that sent me to a loop because it came out of no where. I hope to find a way to calm it down with some of the methods some of you have suggested. Happy calming everyone.
WOW! it's all I can say...since I was a little girl I remember thinking that I was going crazy, I was never able to explain what I was feeling. the slow motion thoughts came with sort of an image of a desert and the fast thoughts will be the same image but as if the sand was falling through holes, almost as if the desert/sand was melting. It sounds so weird as I type it but I cannot explain it any other way. I would have the raising voices, my own thoughts but as if they were not mine. Today, after many years I felt it again, only the slow motion thoughts, that's how I ended up in this blog.
thanks everyone for sharing, it is nice to know I am not alone. After 30 something years I finally find someone that understands.
Guys guys guys! You all have periods where you see things in fast motion, it's the OPPOSITE for me...sometimes i look at my arms and move them and they are moving in slow motion..it scared the **** out of me first time (i was 17. now 21) and i still get kinda eerie when it happens..does anyone know what it is??
I have been having this rushing feeling for 25 yrs.
I am epileptic and it's called an aura/simple partial seizure.
I didn't know what they were for a long time and didn't tell anyone.
I started having them everyday and that lead to 3 massive seizures.
I'm not saying that's what it is for everyone but if you are concerned go see your doctor.
This happens to me too! I don't think it's stress, but it very well could be. I'm 13 and I've been feeling this time acceleration thing ever since I was around 8 (and at random times too).
Sometimes its just annoying. However other times its almost mentally painful, whereas my mind feels panicked and scared. I really wish there was some type of diagnosis.. but some of these posts almost exactly describe the Alice in Wonderland disorder (I think that's what its called).I first realized I wasn't alone on this when I found this one forum (http://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?t=169812), and now I'm really curious as to what doctors think of this.
I'm 15 and i get these every day. I always thought I had anxiety and even my doctor said it was panic attacks, but i knew it wasn't because I always seemed OK, it was just a moving fast feeling. I put it down to stress, but I don't know if everyone's symptoms are because of stress, or if it's just mine. I try to calm myself down but my hands shake and i feel like I've drank about 20 energy drinks. My parents told me it was nothing to worry about, and my brother laughed and said I was crazy. It ***** that i had to come onto here to find some answers, in stead of relying on the people i thought i trusted the most. I asked my mum a simple question yesterday, and i was completely unstressed, and it happened then. I don't know if anyone can relate to this or not though.
I relate with all the posts on this board.
You are here reading this post because likely you are feeling scared, confused and a little (or a lot helpless). First relax, as much as possible, if you are experiencing this as you read. IT WILL GO AWAY hopefully in a few minutes. keep that in mind and it should make you feel a little better.
For me, I have found laying down (if possible) and closing my eyes and trying to breath normally helps to make it go away.
My symptoms are:
- have had this since I was very young, went away for few years and comes back randomly.
- Things are moving faster than normal
- objects are almost distorted in size, when my eyes are closed its almost like my surroundings are getting really large (that's as accurate as I can describe it)
- I can usually hear my heart beat loudly
- my arms and some other body parts are sensitive and tingle
- I often get this when I have a fever or body or mind is under stress
Stay strong, don't despair, you will feel better. Go see a doctor if it keeps happening often, they may have more answers. if the first one doesn't help go to another more competent one. Tell your loved ones so they can help you through it.
Take care
: )
I'm 14 and I have had this fast motion thing in my head ever since I can remember! It happens to me only when I wake up in the morning every few months, and it takes about an hour for it to slow down back to normal... I am sooooo glad I'm not the only one!
when it first starting the fast mosion...ill be watching tv or driving or walking its like some one steped on the gas petle in my brain every thing started going real fast and I felt like I was going real slow when I was walking down hall I all was walk every day it felt like it was longer to go down that hall when I lay down my fan would be so loud and when I shut my eyes and here the fan it would sound like angry voices in my mind ...it started when I was 18 years old sometimes it would last 10 -30 mins I think its stress cuz when I feel bad or sick it would last longer...to me it kinda feels like a spiderman sense every thing is super loud and inhants
WOW. I cant believe this I get this as well. I was really thinking that I was the only person to get these. I have had them since I was a child and I used to get really upset and scared. But I am now 21 and just used to it. I don't get them all the time. It is usually at night and I feel like it seems to be after exercise but maybe not. I feel fine but my mind is just racing so fast and everything around me is going at crazy speeds. I have never worked out what is was nor a way to stop it from happening. So I always just let it happen and eventually pass. I am beginning to think it might be a bit of anxiety or just from being really tired, but I asked my parents if I was a stressed kid and they said not at all. :S so strange. haha glad im not the only one though
