Gout - Without swelling?

Is it possible to have Gout without the redness and swelling? I have sudden onset of Toe pains. Mostly beginning at night. I have a burning/throbbing pain and also skin sensitivity around the area. I can be painful to have a sock or bed sheets touching my foot. I've had this occur in both feet and it has attacked different toes. It doesn't really feel like a joint pain so I'm just confused about what is going on. It's very painful but I don't see any visual changes.
Thanks for your help

I have similar symptoms. No redness or swelling at all. Had gout for more than 10 years now. Attack appears in either feet mostly in front before toes and sometimes on heels. Has travelled to leg and knee once as well. Sometimes appears in fingers and wrist too. It was only diagnosed in 2014 and tried to avoid Alopurinol but this last attack I decided to take so went to dr. He also gave colchecine (since endomethacine did not work at all when taken 2 years back). This worked exactly opposite. Made the pain 10 times worse. Had two kidney stone episodes and the pain was comparable to those. Took 2 tablets of colchecine and it was so worse after 15-20 min. I thought it was breaking the crystals and will go away and took another one after 1 hour. Big mistake. Had to go to hospital in the end and was given prednisone and I also asked for morphine. Pain subsided during the night but is coming back again. If colchecine does not suit somebody avoid taking any subsequent dose and talk to dr.

Most attack free duration has been when I have been on daily fresh pomogranate juice for a year and a bit. Will be starting again.

Also helped was the table below when I folllowed strict diet.

Good luck.

Did you ever find out what you have? I have pain like that in all my toes on one foot. I have no redness and no swelling. I am trying to find out if it is gout or not.
Thanks
Archie

Hi, I don't have gout but I know that it is possible to have a condition without an exact match for the usual symptoms.  How long has your toe been hurting?  Have you tried the gout diet - low purine foods?  Does anything you do make it better or have you noticed something that causes it to get worse?
