sliding scale for Insulin

Had steroid shot today, blood sugar's are 343 now. Take 10 units of Humalog before meals and 55units of Lantus before bed. What is the sliding scale when sick. Have sinus infection and bad cough.

I had an epidural steroid procedure.  My sugars are running very high (330)  but do not want to go to hospital.  Can I do this at home?

Hi Esther,

Do you take insulin or are you on oral meds?
If you are on insulin and you have been trained to do so, you could take a correction shot using your fast acting insulin, with close monitoring of blood sugars.


If you are not on insulin / have not been trained how to take correction shots, you will need to contact your doctor for assistance.  Most likely you will need insulin to bring your sugar levels down.

when your sick its hard to judge how your body is going to react or not react to insulin because so many things are going on inside of you.  try to check your blood sugars a little more often and if high cover, low drink a juice
