Feed ur squirrels.....and they should let ur bulbs alone.....
Dang! I used to think squirrels and rabbits were cute until I started gardening!
After the squirrels dug up the bulbs they found the rabbits eat the ones they missed!!!
I have the exact same problem. I have one in a place that it doesn't get gobbled up but all the rest are eaten early. Before the flowers even appear-- whatever is eating it is chomping the leaves after they are about two inches out of the ground.
I'm considering the liquid fence this year or cayenne pepper.
At what point are they being eaten?
And what is eating them?.....My Cousin grew plants for seeds and sold the seeds so it was important to keep squirrels away, so she put food out for them away from where she was growing the plants and veggies......and it did help....
So knowing what is eating it may help u know whom to feed....lol...
Three years have gone by and my tulips do come up each year, but they get eaten by animals before they get to bloom! What can I do to prevent this from happening?
C~
Be sure to keep watering them until the leaves die back. That will nourish next year's flowers. Don't you just love spring bulbs!
Cut the stems off, take em out of the dirt, store em in something like peat. If you live in a cold climate, in the fall, plant them. If you live in a warm zone, refrigerate them about six weeks before planting them. You can also plant them in layers in a bowl. This is really neat too. Happy Planting.
