I have been on Levothyroxine for 4 months now and have been experiencing acne. Mainly on my neck area. I have always had clear skin even as a tenager. I am now 45. The GP told me that acne on the neck is usualy hormonal and could be due to changes in metaboloism and the ammount of sweat produced by the glands here. He has prescribed me a topical solution which I am dapping on daily and it is clearing it up slowly. He seems to think it will settle down by itself . Watch this space!
Thanks for your comments. I did try alternative HRT's for a while and spent a number of years with a HRT specialist at the local hospital trying other HRT's. Feel really happy with the one I have settled on now and have done so for 3 years. The only change has been the introduction of levothyroxine. I am interested to know more about the saliva testing and the 'filler's. Is sythroid synthetic? I have a GP appt on Friday and would like to go with some information. Really appreciate your help.
I am on the brand name and have had bouts with acne since starting it last Oct. (Im 43 graves/RAI)
Your not alone in experincing this. One thing Im looking into is I did a lot of dietary changes and that flaired some exsisting problems. My new healthy diet is making me a mess. Since lowering the protein in my diet the acne has lightened up.
HRT is not a one size fits all.....maybe your body needs more progesterone. Just saying as an example. Have you done a full hormone panel with saliva testing? May be worth a shot.
Also you may possibly be reacting to a filler in the Levo.....maybe you could ask for Synthroid instead.
Just some thoughts. :)
