Medication

I am on Lyrica for burning feet caused by neuropathy.  When standing, I am having dizzy spells and risk the chance of falling.  I'm not sure if it's the medication or the MS.  Does anyone else have this problem?

I'm new to the board and trying to get used to the abbreviations used. I don't understand DMD.

Hi again,

Must be quite the journey after all these years.  I'm sorry to hear of the SPMS dx.  If you feel comfortable to do so, we're all ears as to how you have been getting along.  I hope you are able to get to the source of the dizzyness too.  I'd think med related only if it was coincidental with an increase or something, since you've been on it so long.

Are you on a DMD?

Hope you are able to stay with us.

and all others.  I started slowly (75mg) on the Lyrica maybe 5 years ago.  I'm now up to 325mg twice daily.  I was diagnosed with Relapsing Remitting MS in 1995 and recently diagnosed as Secondary Progressive.  The Lyrica is working somewhat. I still have some burning but nothing like before.

I want to also welcome you to the MS forum. You pose an interesting question that many of us have been through.  Hope we can help.

How long have you been on the Lyrica? What dose did your doctor start you out on?  As Shell mentioned in the above post, it is better to titrate your doses up so your body can adjust to the new drug.  Sometimes our doctors start us out on too high a dose and we get side effects like the ones you mention.

My neuro put me on Lyrica in the beginning and I also had similar side effects as you had like dizziness.  I also had this weird whole body numbness feeling, not like a parathesia, but like a disconnected feeling.  I recall that lasting a week or two at the most and then it went away.  The doctor will probably tell you that the side effects dissapate as your body gets used to the drug and that is pretty much how it works.

I hope the Lyrica will help you with the pain, but while you adjusting to the doses please be careful with your balance and walking.  It should go away soon.

Take care.

Julie

Hi there,

Welcome to the forum.  It is so hard to know.  Did you have it once you started? Is the Lyrica working for the neuropathy?

You can always talk to the Dr. and see if you can taper the dose.  It may be the only way to know for sure.

Be careful!
