tramadol for chronic back pain

im on week 23 with my peg/cogeg treatment. last viral load was un detctable. my problem is alt & ast  are both slightly elevated. i have 2 herniated disks from an old car wreck. i have been taking ibuprofen and aspirin. for the back pain 800mg of motrin has been just barely taking off the edge. my gasro said no more asa or ibuprofen and that i can take tylenol 500mg t.i.d. it didnt help at all. after my last peg inj. the body pains were really bad. im think about asking him for ultram(tramadol) for the back pain. is anybody familiar with this med for pain? he is giving me ambien 10mg for sleep. i don want to get addicted to anything.

Everyone says tramadol is addictive. if it is the withdrawal is so mild compared to opiates that i feel no withdrawal and have been on and off it several times over the years. taking 100 mg eveyday now but it is so mild it is starting to have no effect on peptic ulcers. i certainly would not take it for severe back pain. Only problem is anything worth while for pai severe pain is likely to be addictive to a much greater extreme.

If I might ask you what are the stages of this medication and the toll it takes on you? I have heard so many things about the tx, but no clarificatiuon of  when your hair starts falling out or you loose weight, tired all the time or real bad muscle aches. I'm trying to figure out how to prepare for the next 45  weeks.

I've been on Tramadol for over ayear prescribed 2/ 50mg tabs every 4 hours. I find it is not necessary to take it like that and sometimes go days with none. I have fibromyalgia along with just starting txs, it deffinetly does help. If it makes you nausea just eat a little something before it and after it or have a glass of milk (yougut) to coat your stomach. I  do take flexerill eveynight and it helps me sleep as well.

I got prescribed Tramadol for the headaches I have from treatment.  I did a bit of research on it, and found it operates on the same receptors as morphine, but it's not a narcotic. I find it makes me feel about the same as a narcotic pain killer, good as well as bad. Pain killers tend to make me nauseous and not sleep too good. The throwing up I can live without, but being a little amped up is a good thing!  I don't take it all the time so getting addicted is not an issue. I'm on Xanax for anxiety and my doctor will take me off that gradually when the time comes. I don't think Tramadol is an issue. Ambien, I'm not sure, but don't refuse something that will ease your side effects and help you sleep. These doctor's are well aware of these things and can work with us.

I have recently gotten a script for tramadol and FOR ME it works wonders.  Vicodin never touched the neck pain and soma just makes me sleep, hence no pain.  I think a script of 40 has lasted me about 30 or so days and it says I can take 4 a day.  Not a narcotic but it really helps.

thanx. ive been doing a lot of research on tramadol. i was on paxil for about 5 years and the withdrawels that a lot of people are describing are a lot like the ones i had when i stopped the paxil c/t. the tram does have ssri's (probably one of the reasons they work so well) but when i came off the paxil gradually i was fine. im going to discuss this with gastro. thanx again for the 411

I had headache big time tylenol didn´t help so I´ve got tramadol for the last 8 months on treatment.
The perfect dose was  two capsuels and one  tylenol one or two times a day.
Without the tylenol it didn´t help and one tylenol was better than two.

I felt so freaking good on them but stopped as soon treatment ended.
I´ve been a sober alcohol and drug addict for 22 years now, but I never have felt real good being sober it has always been like something is missing.

So its the seratonin I´m lack (thx for the tip fl mouse) of, got to find something for that some ADs maybe I don´t think I need much just a little!!

Good luck with the tramadol, btw I also have a damaged disc in my back!!

I have been on Tramadol for chronic pain from Rheumatoid Arthritis for 2 years.  And I did take it while I was on treatment.  Tramadol  helped me tremendously with my aggitation from treatment also. I do know several other people that have claimed the same.  It has an affect on the seratonins in the brain.  People very seldom get addicted, it's not like taking an opiate.   I personally am a fan of Tramadol.

P.S.  I'm able to get by with just on 50mg tab every couple of days.  I have also been taking Ambien CR 12.5 for 3 years.
