Because dairy can be contaminated with listeria, eating soft, unpasteurized cheeses and unpasteurized milk can cause brain damage in your baby, or even a miscarriage. Stay away from cheeses like feta; mold-ripened cheeses like Brie and Camembert; blue-veined cheeses, such as Stilton and Danish Blue; and Mexican style-cheeses like queso blanco, queso fresco and panela. Substitute hard cheeses, such as cheddar, Gruyere, Jarlsberg or provolone. And when you're looking for a little liquid calcium, make sure your milk is pasteurized, too.
