Maintaining healthy bones is often overlooked. We will jump through hoops to be informed about, and prevent, illnesses like cancer and heart disease, but it is just assumed that our trusty bones will hold up over time. Bones serve many important purposes. They give shape to the body, protect internal organs and anchor muscles. The fact that millions of people suffer from, or run the risk of developing a bone-weakening disease, osteoporosis, should make bone health a top priority.
