Osteoporosis is a widespread, common disease, affecting approximately 10 percent of the world's population. There are about 10 million American sufferers and 34 million more are at risk. But the unsettling truth is that many people who sustain a fragility fracture, a fracture that occurs from a fall at standing height or less, are not appropriately diagnosed and treated for osteoporosis, so its incidence is higher than the numbers suggest.
