I wasn't able to do any blood tests today because I'm still waiting on my new Ascensia Contour to arrive in the mail. My insurance stopped covering the test strips for my freestyle freedom.  A little word from the company would have been nice so I could have ordered before I was on my last three strips. I basically had to eat based on what I felt like. I hope I was able to keep my control and find out if I did hopefully tomorrow morning.

I ended up having what I thought was a normal indigestion episode Saturday along with my sugars being a little up. When the pain didn't go away Sunday it turned out that I had appendicitis. I had to wait what seemed like forever until I could have the surgery. I ended up having it at about 5am monday morning. I'm still experiencing a little pain from where they had to cut into the muscle but I am just relieved that I got out of the hospital with no complications (other than mild soreness that will go away)and that the Surgery went well(First ever and hopefully last). I still have to go back next week for them to remove the sutures. I'm just glad that I'm out and hopefully I can get back to my normal routine soon. I also remember that they gave me some jello and popsicles for my liquid diet and rose my sugars a little, and I havent had my normal lantus dosage in 3 days so I'm really looking forward to getting those more under control. I also wonder if the ketones at my last doctor visit was a sign of it.

I think I overshot by a few units of humalog trying to get it down from the 230 I woke up with (I ate some cereal but because all we had was sweetened I was worried about the cereal rising it up higher than what I woke up with.) I'm still trying to adjust so I won't get any more hypoglycemic episodes. While it was 51 I didn't experience any of the severity of what I had Friday, so I'm at least grateful for that.

Severe Hypoglycemia

Oct 09, 2009 - 1 comments

I'm not sure what caused it but I barely remember waking up and ending up on the living room couch. I don't even think I had the self-awareness to eat breakfast when I woke up. Luckily I don't live alone so my mom was on the move as far as testing my blood sugar (which turned out to be 67, which in the past I've never had sever hypoglycemia at that level, but then again I had trouble remembering if I even ate breakfast). I ended up eating a fig, some normal redpop and half a McDonalds Double Cheeseburger (it was hard enough trying to stay up to eat it) and it rose my sugars up to about 83. Because of the hypoglycemia I am surpassing my evening lantus shot for tonight for fear that it will get back low, but since this is the 2nd case of mild hypoglycemia for me I think I am going to cut my lantus back to 13 before bed and 14 in the evening time and see how that works out.
