First Trimester Screening & Results

Nov 02, 2011 - 0 comments

Had screening today for Downs and Trisomy 18.

When we got there we met the ultrasound tech. He was really nice and got started right away. It took him just a second to get the baby on the screen and then, there our baby was! We were so excited to see our little jelly bean...who actually looked less like a bean and more like a baby. We heard the heartbeat at a strong 165 bpm.

The tech measured the baby and it was just measuring a day young which is fine. Baby is thriving well! The tech measured the liquid behind the baby's neck and said that the fluid there was within the normal range.

After the tech was done with his portion, Dr. Crisan came in. She repeated the scan and got our little one to move around. At first we thought it was just the machine but she stopped moving the wand and we saw our baby and it looked like he/she was dancing! It's the cutest thing I have ever seen! Only disappointing part was that it wasn't captured on the DVD :(

After she was done with looking at our baby, she said that she could give us a guess as to the sex. She warned that it was just a guess and that we shouldn't go pick out paint colors or clothes just yet. So, by her educated guess, she said she thinks....It's A Girl....BUT we can't be sure just yet not until the anatomy scan...

No matter who is in there, we'll be excited

Diabetes Counseling Appointment

Oct 26, 2011 - 0 comments

Today I had my first follow-up for my diabetes counseling at the specialist's office. The counselor looked over what I have been eating and right away determined that I was definitely not eating enough. Even though she's laid out a meal plan for me, I have been finding it a little difficult to eat it all! I told her that I would promise to do better and by next week, when I see her again, she'll see a marked improvement. She's good with what I am eating, just not the amount.

She couldn't comment on my blood sugar because in the course of this past week, I ran out of test strips. Since both of my doctors want me to check about 5 times a day, that requires a bunch more strips. The insurance company would not approve the large amount, even after they were told that I am pregnant! So frustrating.

They did finally approve the quantity so I will start recording my sugars again either tomorrow or the next day.

Next appointment is scheduled for November 2nd for both doctors. At the regular OB, he will do an exam and we'll get to hear the heartbeat! Excited for this. At the specialist, we're supposed to have our First Trimester Screening... still not sure if we want to do this or not. I think we will just so that we can get another picture of our sweet, little baby!

One more funny thing.... specialist wants me to submit 24 hours worth of urine. I had to go to the OB's office to get the "specimen container". This thing is HUGE and BRIGHT ORANGE! I am supposed to collect my urine for 24 hours, keep the sample refrigerated and then, take it to them once the 24 hours is up. It's awesome....NOT! Had to tell Grant not to mess with it. He got pretty grossed out.

Fort Worth Zoo

Oct 23, 2011 - 0 comments

We went to the zoo today. It was a perfect day to go. The weather was sunny and not too hot at all.  Bryan asked if this was the baby's first trip to the zoo and I think it was.

There were so many children there all dressed up in their Halloween costumes. I can't wait until next Halloween when the baby will be about 6 months old and we can take him/her all dressed up in a cute costume. Grant went with us too. He is such a good kid. I even gave him the option to go hang out with his friends instead of us and he still wanted to go with us. What 15 year old kid wants to be seen in public with his parents?

I only had a couple of bouts of nausea. The walking around in the fresh air was great it was enclosed areas that were hot and stinky that I had issues with. We drank plenty of water and even enjoyed some ice cream.

Bryan went grocery shopping right after we got home. It's so funny giving a guy a list. He got everything that was on the list and there were some items I wasn't specific about (which is my fault) and he just interpreted the best way he knew and got the wrong thing. Again, it was my fault not being specific so I wasn't upset. I just laughed :)  I wanted to go with him but he told me to stay at home and sit!

I made chicken spaghetti for dinner after he got home with some of the things I needed to make it and I know we'll be having it again because there was so much left over.
