Neck pain

Well...here we go.  I went into the Surgeon today that did my initial surgery on my neck (herniated disc), he did an x-ray and discovered that the staple did NOT move (thank God).  He isn't sure what is causing the pain in my neck and into my left shoulder or the numbing and tingling in my left hand from the fingertips to the elbow....the next step...an EMG.  I get to go on the 8th at 8:45am to have this test done.  They will take long needles, place them inside my muscles and send electrical currents into the muscles to see what is happening.  I have seen this test performed on Ted when he was electrocuted at work.  He has no feeling in his left arm...I have feeling so I know this test will be uncomfortable but I am willing to have this done so MAYBE we can get to the bottom of what is going on with me and they can get this pain under control again.  They have me taking Lortab 5/500 mg for the pain...they want me to go on Prednisone again but after the last incident with them, I am not gonna get this one filled.

OK - Just wanted to fill everyone in on what is happening.  Will write more after the test on the 8th to keep everyone informed.

I don't know what is going on....about a week ago I started to experience headaches and migraines again (first time since surgery on April 29th) and then my left arm from the elbow to the fingertips started to go numb and is really tingly...now I am having immense pain in my neck on the left side and into my left shoulder.  I have to go into see the surgeon Monday but until then since it is the weekend, I have to suffer with the pain cause they can't call anything out!!    I really don't know what to think here...if the staple moved...and they have to reopen my neck again, will this surgery work or how many failed surgeries is it going to take to finally have a successful one?  Don't know if anyone else has had this problem or not but thought I would post this and see if anyone has any thoughts on what is going on??

It has been 13 days since my surgery.  I am feeling a little better.  Still sore but can def see an improvement.  The movement in my neck is starting to come back to normal.  I have a nice scar on the left side of my throat but with time, that will go away for the most part.  I know I haven't had many people on here who act like they really give a **** but let me tell you, it has been nice just to come on and put my thoughts and fears down and if people read them, hopefully, it will help them in their journey.

I have learned a valuable lesson...never take life for granted.  I have a husband who really loves me but who doesn't understand one thing about what I am going thru and that makes it hard as well.

Hope this post finds everyone well and I really hope that someone out there who reads this will understand and maybe just send a little note my way letting me know that they read it and have some sort of understanding.  Take care.

Well...I had surgery on Tuesday 4/29/08.  I was sent home on Wednesday 4/30/08.  I slept the majority of the time. The Doctor came in and told me that while I was on the operating table, he had to give me 3 times the normal amount of anesthesia due to being on the Percocet for as long as I have.  Well...now I am not only on the Percocet 2 pills every 4 hours but am still taking the Neurotin 400 mg 4 times a day, Valium 3 times a day, Prednesone 4 times a day and also taking an antibiotic!!  I can't believe the amount of pain that I am in at this time.  I have had all kinds of pressure and pain and right now am just hoping that I will get thru this and find relief.  I am so tired of taking pills and trying to act "normal".  Please let me know if anyone else has had this problem and if there will ever be any type of relief in my near future!!  Oh...they didn't have to put a cage around the disc...they stapled it instead...not sure I understand how that one works but they think it will be just fine.....

Thanks,

Rosie
