Need sleeping arrangement advice!!!

Mar 17, 2014 - 5 comments

Hi beautiful ladies! I'm here asking for your advice...

So our new baby Nicole Marie (LOL...that's her name TODAY...still can't decide!) will be here in 7 weeks. We don't have enough bedrooms for both girls to be in their own room for now. So I'm asking to see what you all think...or what you've done with your own children.

We are thinking of either 1)  putting Daniella in a toddler bed and the baby in the crib in the same room (Daniella will be 19 months) from the beginning.  OR 2) keeping Daniella as is by herself in her room and having the baby in a bassinet for a couple of months then putting the baby in with Daniella when she gets a better sleep schedule.

Daniella is a good sleeper most of the time. If I put the baby in there since day 1 will they get used to each other or will it disrupt her sleep is my concern....

Hi Maria
I would definitely go with option 2. Reasons for this is baby is close to you for night feeds without disrupting Daniella at least until you get into a routine and see what new baby's sleep patterns are like. Also Daniella can get used to her little sister before she has to share her room with her and get used to going in a big girl bed .
My girls are close in age. Older one very calm, good sleeper but younger one not. Very difficult when they too had to share bedroom
Best wishes to you all.

Well, I am no
.  But, I would want Daniella to stay in her crib as long as possible.  I worry about what they can get into while I am still asleep, if in a toddler bed.
But, I also agree with the get 'em used to each other from day one.  Cami and Drake have been in the same room since day one, and both sleep through each others cries... help am I?!?  Lol

I'm going to keep Ella in her crib/room and I'm going to keep Sophia in the cosleeper in my room for a few months then I think I will get a toddler bed. I too have no other room, were both I'm the same position! 7 weeks left? Wow that went fast!!! Ella is a great sleeper so m hoping it will stay that way!

I too would go with option 2. T has been in a toddler bed since 18months but we have the angel care motion monitor and i still use it. It used to be to see if he was breathing now the alarm goes off if he gets out and it resets when he gets back in. He's a sneaky bugger, lol!! He knows how long he has before it goes off so you can hear the foot steps running across the floor to his bookshelf and back. I think the sooner you start the better he usually stays in but will run to get a book.

Then when baby has a better sleep pattern put her in. Just imagine if hubby's alarm was going off every couple hrs... It would wake you a bit so very restless sleep which equals crabby toddler. Good sleeper or not screaming baby will disturb it. I would put her in a toddler bed soon... Don't move her out of the crib and baby directly in. Its her bed and its one more thing she will feel like she's "losing"... Its better to store the crib away for a few months then put baby in it :)
