Something To Shout About!!!
A Word of Encouragement
Dear Friends in the Faith:
Trust me when I tell you that Thanksgiving Day has little to do with a turkey, a ham, a pie or corn bread dressing. It has little to do with what NFL team will win at the end of the day and head into the play-offs. But, it has to do with the grace of God that has kept us all year long! You see, there comes a time when you owe God a shout! And, if you can not give Him a shout, you just have to fix your lips to say, "Thank You Jesus!"
Take a moment just think about all that your eyes have seen this year. Consider all of the people that would just love to be you and have what you have. Pause to reflect on just how much God has blessed you with, inspite of all of the errors that you have made. Look back for just a moment and think about the many days that He has kept you, held you, blessed you, fed you, directed you, protected you, and lifted you. Are you thinking yet? Consider the fact that you really did not have to be here right now. But, somehow God saw fit to let you live. Can you remember the time when you did not have what you have right now? Who's responsible for your life, your well being, and all that you possess? Who did it for you? It was nobody but Jesus Christ! In fact, if you think about it long enough you will step away from your computer and leap like the man in the photo above! in short, my friends God has been good to you!
The goodness of God demands a repsponse. Check out this man in Luke 17:11-19. Here's how the story flows, "And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: and they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole" (KJV). You see, this man just could not keep on going as if nothing had taken place in his life. When this healed man that had leprosy considered what the Lord had done for him, he turned around, came back and gave Him thanks with passion and purpose. In short, this man had something to shout about! And it is my belief that just as the brother in the passage had something to shout about so do we! So, how do you know when you have something to shout about?
You know that you have something to shout about when God has answered your prayers and petitions. Okay, let's be totally honest for a moment. Has the Lord ever done it for you just one time? Has He ever answered a prayer for you? If He has, then you have something to shout about. The men that cry out to Jesus to have mercy on them. They have leprosy so more than likely their cry was as soft as a faint voice in a busy place. But, the shouting news of the day is that Jesus heard it! You see, God doesn't just hear the audible, the Lord hears the natural. What do I mean by this you ask? God can hear an oak tree sip water. God can hear a dove in flight. And, God can hear your hair grow. Now if God can hear all of that, surely He can hear your cry and pity your every groan! If the Lord has ever answered a prayer for you at all, then don't hold your thank you back! You've got something to shout about!
Secondly, you know that you have something to shout about when God has made some profound provisions for you. Not long ago I saw a woman dancing in the streets of Beaumont. I paused to see if everything was alright. She continued praising God and afterwards she said, "Pastor you don't understand! My credit was shot after my divorce and I never thought I would ever own a home. But do you see that house right there? God gave it to me! Aint God good?" Now here's what really deep. The Lord didn't just provide that sister a house, but He's been providing for all of us all year long. For the Samaritan in the passage Jesus provided healing. For the sister that was shouting in the street it was a house. Here's a great devotional question for you right quick. What has the Lord provided for you that you could not get for yourself? If God did for you, then you should do it for Him! Do what you ask? Thank Him like you've got something to shout about!
And lastly, you know that you have something to shout about when God gains your public praise. Many of us treat God like a ugly date that's loaded with cash. We don't mind spending time with Him behind the scenes, but we don't want people to know that we love Him in public. You see, we often praise God in private, but we fall short in public. But here's my philosophy, a dog should bark. No matter what kind of a dog it is, barking should happen at some time or another. A fish should swim. If you have a fish that doesn't swim it is dead and you don't know it. And, know this I believer should be thankful and shout every now and then. This man that WAS a leper came back to say thank you. Ten men were healed and only one came back. By the law of averages most of us will not thank God the way that we should. But, here's the real deal. All you need is one! One saint with a heart that says "He has been sooooooo good to me that I can not hold my peace!"
When you get to your family gatherings this year you walk in with a spirit of thanksgiving! No matter what the circumstances are, no matter how hard the year has been, no matter how much money you have or don't have, no matter who's at the table and who's not at the table, and no matter what others have to say about it you open up your mouth and give God a praise! And remember, if no one else will do it for Him, you do it because you've got something to shout about!!!
