Well, I've dropped 21 lbs in 8 weeks so far, and as I look over the patterns of my progress, interesting insights come to light.

From my near 20 years past experience of yo-yo dieting and other ventures, I've long since realized that no weight loss attempt is identical to the previous one (at least not for me). It's different every time, and the results change every time. On some attempts I would lose weight fast, but my measurements would be slow to change. Other times the results were 50/50. Still other times my measurements would change before my weight would. Losing weight is complicated enough without dealing with the myriad ways any given attempt might show or not show on the body.

I have noticed this pattern: My metabolism very clearly has a cycle which turns over every three weeks. The first week, weight loss is minimal to none (0-1 lbs). The second week brings a more moderate loss (2-3 lbs) and the third week suddenly kicks in with a significant loss (3-5 lbs). Then the pattern repeats. My daily routine is NOT on any kind of cycle or weird pattern that might coincide with the amounts of weight lost each week. I have actually found that exercising more or eating slightly less during the slow weeks does NOTHING to change the result. My weight drops when it wants to on the schedule it has set for itself, and not before. Odd, but interesting.

This should be a medium week, so next week should be the best one this month!
