Lab results. Help?

Feb 18, 2016 - 14 comments

I have no idea what any of this means.  UGH.

AMH (Anti-Mullerian Hormone) is 1.19ng/ml.  I hope this is a good number. :|

I have pages here of blood work.  Why do they check platelets? And what's all of this serum stuff?  Example:
Glucose/Serum, Uric Acid Serum, Creatinine Serum and so many others!  My Bun/Creatinine Ratio is high at 23.  Normal says 8-20 but I'm pretty sure that's because of my bladder disease.  I've got cholesterol numbers and Triglycerides, this is overwhelming lol.

I guess it's relieving that even though I have no idea what half of this stuff is, it's at least in the "normal" range. lol.  Well except for the Bun/Creatinine ration.

Also I have a question.  We did a blood test that tests Brian and myself  to see if we're a carrier for anything and if we could pass it along.  Having these tests done is that anything similar to having genetic testing on the embryo's(when they fertilize the egg?)?

The genetic carrier testing is a bit different than the PGD they do on embryos. Your genetic testing shows if you have any chance of passing on hereditary illnesses or diseases like cystic fibrosis while the pgd tests for chromosomal abnormalities like Down syndrome.

I'm not sure about the rest, but I can help you look it up.

Like ttc  says these are to find of if you both are carriers of something that the embryos could be screened for to know if they could be affected.  When embryos are sent for PGD or PGS they biopsy each embryo and analyze them for all sorts of genetic abnormalities, translocations and chromosome deletion. I'm not sure if this website is still around but you might see if any of it helps you understand PGD/PGS any better. Viagene.com and GenesisGenetics.com was the last place our clinic used for us. PGD and PGSsample the embryos ONLY for many different genetic abnormalities, which some can be fatal. It also picked up that one of our embryos was an empty sac, meaning no baby would of resulted had that embryo been transferred without being genetically tested.

Sorry, I'm sure it's overwhelming... I'm always here to help if you need it.
Love you!

Thank you E!  I'll check them out.  I'm on an IVF forum through FB and been seeing a lot about genetic screening or something like that.  It's amazing to me what they can check for and find out.  Wow!
Love you!

Another important test you both should have is a kayrotype. If you both have 'normal' karyotypes that is wonderful!!!
They may check things liked protein C, protein S, NK cells, ANA, thyroid (not just TSH) and probably a few more I just can't remember right now. All will give them valuable info as to how to get the best IVF outcome. Blood disorders you never knew you had, your body possible rejecting an embryo thinking its a foreign object (NK cells) and such can be treated with Meds to prevent these things from happening. I'm proof of that x 2.
I'm sorry it all sounds scary and overwhelming. Just wanna put it out there in case even one little bit of info helps or prompts questiones to your doctors.
Email me any questions. Just stopped by today to check on you and wish you the very best!!
Once you actually start the IVF cycle itself, there won't be any time to worry about this stuff. You will be running around having ultrasounds, become a human pin cushion and all sorts of things.
Can't wait to hear or your success this year!!'
Love You!!

The places I mentioned are the actual companies that do the testing. I think I would look there for accurate answers and I'm sure they would answer questions. Not saying FB isn't accurate.  ***@**** was our last rep. I'm sure you could email her with any questions.

Thank you E!!  I was looking over his lab papers and it shows "Cells Karyotyped 2" and that's in the normal column.  Is this what you mean?   I'm looking over this to see if I can find the things you mentioned.

I looked into the amh and the bun/creatinine levels.

You are right that the bun/creatinine is elevated because of your bladder/kidneys.  It looks like keeping hydrated can help lower this ratio.

The amh shows how much ovarian reserve you have and your number is just on the low end of normal.  All that really means is that you may have a few less follicles, but from what I read, when you are doing IVF, it's less of an issue.  It is quality that counts more than quantity. If you aren't alread taking coenzyme q10, start taking it.  It helps egg quality.  Good luck!  I hope the biopsy finds lots of swimmers!

Thank you TTC for all your help and research! :D   It's hard for me to drink much of anything because thanks to my bladder disease my bladder is half the size it should be so the fuller it is the more painful it is.  I'm going to try though!  Can I find this Coenzyme Q10 in the vitamin section?  How much should I take?

Yes, coq10 is in the supplement section. Try to find the ubiquinol version, it's best.  I believe I took 200mg per day.
