Phone Consult with the Nurse

May 16, 2016 - 21 comments

I finally talked to the nurse the other day.  We went over my calendar.  Wow, a lot to take in!!!  I'll be on birth control up until May 31st and that'll be my last dose that day.  On June 1st we'll go in and sign consents, pay for everything and I'll have blood work and ultrasound.  I'll start taking my stim meds on June 5th.  I'll have 375 IU of Follistim, 75 IU of Menopur daily for 10 days.  Around June 9th I'll add in Ganirelix.  Brian and I will start antibiotics on June 12th and we'll do our HCG shot around June 13th-14th.  Retrieval should be sometimes around June 15-17th.  She said we'll have transfer around June 20th-21st and I'll do a pregnancy test around June 28th-29th.

This Cryoscreen on my calendar that I was confused about is MY HIV, std blah blah blah test.  They already tested Brian before he had his biopsy.

The nurse phoned in my prescriptions to their pharmacy they  usually use and she told me I could call later to get a price.  I called and the lady said that our meds would be around $10,100.  I was shocked.  Thank GOD for Compassionate Care, so between them and the coupons the pharmacy used we were looking around $3500.  HUGE difference.   Later that day she called back and said believe it or not, after calling the insurance company and running our insurance IT WAS GOING TO COVER OUR MEDS!!!!!  All I would have to pay is $253 for everything, down to the needles.  Everything was included.  My meds should be getting here tomorrow.   Holy cow I couldn't believe it.  I was so shaky and wanted to throw up because I couldn't believe it.  I asked her to repeat herself so I wouldn't think I was hearing things lol.  I had NO idea they'd even cover it.  I KNEW they wouldn't cover the IVF so I didn't think they'd cover the meds.  I am SO SO Thankful!!!

So that's where we are right now. I'm nervous about the meds.  Getting them wrong, being overwhelmed with trying to keep up with everything.  Gives me anxiety!!!  The nurse said I'd be taking them in my leg....nervous about that.

Anyways, not much longer now!!!  I cannot believe we're about to start this.  Wow!!

Hansen, Thank you SO much!! That would definitely be an even bigger blessing.  I'd Love to have twins.  I always thought if I were to ever have a child I'd only want one but as I've aged, I've realized how much my brother and sister mean to me and wouldn't want my child to be the only child.

I hope I can share the amazing news soon!! :D

That is the best news, Des!!! I'm so happy and excited for you. I know I will be having junior before you start meds but I will try my best to get right back to you if you have any questions. The injections aren't bad like you might be thinking. It's a very fine and short needle for the stims you are on. I took all those same meds each IVF cycle.  I'm also glad they covered your meds!! That is a huge relief in itself!  Just make sure they are sending you the Follistim pen like I had mentioned before. You cannot take that led without the pen.

PS your timeframe with this cycle is very similar to the one with M :)
She sends you (& I) loads of prayer & baby dust

Thank you so much E !!!!!   I couldn't believe it. Yes it was a huge relief when she told me my insurance would cover the meds.   I don't think they're sending me the pen.  They're having me mix the Menopur with the Follistima and injecting them together.  Ever heard of this???  You and Junior have been on my mind SOOO much here lately and don't think for a minute starting these meds will change that.  How neat that this is similar to yours.  Hoping that's a good sign! :D

Aww tysm Hollus.  It's been a long time coming that's for sure.  You're so right, it really is falling into place.  :D

Des like i told you cause your mixing them u dont need a pen. if you were taking them as 2 single injections then u would need a pen.. u will be drawing them up into 1 needle. I would ask the pharmacist what 375iu will be on the needle so u know.  The pen is a small needle the one going into your leg is a tiny bit bigger but not by much. they dont hurt. thinking of you

The only drawback to mixing the meds together is this:

If you accidentally squirt some out of the syringe or something you don't know which medication you didn't get the full dose of. Sounds silly but it happens to a lot of ladies. The injections are not painful at all. I did mine in my tummy (sub Q). The IM (in your bum) ones for progesterone and estrogen are not pleasasent but most take patches, pills, compounded suppositories or creams.  All it's doing is saving you a second needle stick. I can send you my pen if you need. I have zero use for it. No more babies at my old age!

Thank you Lauren!

Thank you E! Thankfully I'll see the nurse and I guess I'll just get her to show me everything.  I don't know why they want me to mix them and have 1 shot but I'm not complaining lol.

Thank you TTC! Yes it is,  lol I can't believe it.

Thank you so much Mel!!! Lol I can hear your cheers now!  ;)

Thank you Heather!  :D  I'm getting excited myself.  Like TTC said,  it's all coming so fast.  It feels like it anyways.  We had our consult in November and we've had tests,  blood work and a biopsy and here we are.  Finally!!! :D
