why not?

Require the children of all elected officials to serve in the military, on the front lines. Base the pay of legislators on the percentage of how much they actually read the content of the laws they pass. Make it a felony with mandatory prison time for anyone who knowingly hires, leases to, or conducts financial transactions with illegal aliens. Deport any person or organization who attempts or threatens to impose sharia law on others, or makes threats against US citizens who openly criticize Islamic doctrine. Or we can just stick with the road were on, since things are going so well. GM

I just might send this suggestion off to my representative.

Most of what you have said is very agreeable except for the kids serving...the military is an all volunteer and should stay that way. If someone does not want to be in the military they should not be forced to do so. Just because someone wants to serve as an elected official why should there child made to do something?

That nut Dennis Kuchinich disagreed with Afghanstain and Iraq Wars so should his children be made to serve even if he voted against those actions?

Hi. No, don't mean it should be retroactive. Rather it could be a requirement for those seeking office. I know it sounds a bit drastic, but lately, our elected officials have been very detached from the reality our troops face on a daily basis. Ask the veteran, or the current soldier why they are putting their lives on the line. Ask the soldier who is permanently scarred, the widows and children of our soldiers who find their loved ones in pieces in a flag covered coffin. We are at war, and it should be treated as such. No one should be exempt from the responsibility of defending the principles of this nation, and making the necessary sacrifices. Its easy to sit back and dictate patriotism. Its another to have its implications hit home. GM

i think every able bodied youth should spend a year in the service of our country. i have always felt this way. serving your country doesn't necessarily mean fighting in foreign countries. the discipline, commradery and education can be very beneficial. the perspective of our self centered and often apathetic youth could use a good tweak. peace, sway

okay, let me play devils advocate here....

Did you serve a year in the military?

I see what you are saying, and I do agree that all the qualities and attributes are greatly needed in todays society, not just youth. However, I am just a bit leary of people being governmently ordered to do something.   Just as I was typing this, I thought this: "we are ordered to pay taxes, IF we work", so who knows what would be best.

I don't think anyone should be forced to serve in the military, we went thru this with Vietnam.  No, not everyone goes to war but how do they decide which ones would go to war and who wouldn't?

I'm a big fan of not holding children accountable for their parents crimes.  These days, being a politician is almost a crime!  So, I'd never agree to kids of politicians being forced to serve in the military.  How about the politicians themselves?  Just kidding.  I'd like to see Hilary and Nancy in a uniform though . . .

"These days, being a politician is almost a crime!"

Isn't that the truth!? I have said numerous times I hate to vote in people that I believe are honest sincere citizens, because you know they will be crooks when they come out. Its like contributing to the demise of a good citizen.

Ok. I can see where the military service would give the feds more control. I stand corrected. However, the suggestion of the politicians serving sounds good. I wonder If the cabinet members know how to fire a weapon? As far as the islam stuff, I'm gonna play devils advocate. If mohammed dictates that those who disagree with islam should be killed, then mohammed can go to he11. That's right. I'm drawing pictures of him right now getting his tail kicked by a woman. So all you radical Muslims can try to censor me like you did comedy central and Salman Rushdie. I'm practicing freedom of speech. You're offended? I'm sorry, maybe you need to be offended. Don't like it? GO BACK to WHERE YOU CAME FROM! If this sounds harsh, maybe you should consider the families of people like Daniel Pearl, who was brutally murdered by Muslim radicals just because he was not one of them. Ok, rant over. I'm just getting fed up. GM

I'm not that familiar with Arizona politics, but doesn't she want anyone who doesn't look like they belong in the US to be asked for documentation.

No. Only If an individual is already being investigated for a crime, and gives reasonable cause. Law enforcement would not be able to question ones legal status based simply upon their appearance. This law is already on the books with the federal government, but has not been enforced. This is why the state is stepping in- to do the job the federal government has failed to.

Ok. It appears that my child molestor comment may have been disturbing to some, so to clarify: I was not suggesting that the politicians were such, and I didn't intend to arouse any negative emotions in anyone who has been subjected to such criminal behavior. I was simply trying to present another scenario which would illustrate the word "creepy" so I offer my apologies. Another example would be a florist who makes deliveries in a hearse, no offense to florists or dead people.

Let me clarify that! Its not that I am NOT against offending or FOR it.   Its just that, you can't make EVERYBODY happy all the time. When you deal with a large group of people SOMEBODY is inevitably going to get offended because somebody is going to disagree.

When the guidelines are set, and there just has to be guidelines, they should be followed whether one likes it or not. I am not to fond of having to stop at red lights and stop signs. They interfere with my journey. HEY!!! I wonder if I start complaining that they offend me if they would do away with them.
