No movement yet

Dec 12, 2010 - 14 comments

I am now 13 weeks and 2 days and worried I can't feel anything yet. I get a dull ache in my lower abdomen occasionally when I walk too much or in the mornings when I wake up. I am not sure whether this is my baby telling me to stop moving or start eating! I so wish I was feeling kicking but have never had children and don't know what feeling to expect. Anyone feeling flutters yet?

i am, it only started about a week ago but this is my second. its almost like a poke or wibble, but you only feel it on the inside for now. theyre only about the size of a boiled egg so you cant feel much if even, you just know "that cant be wind". you'll get it soon :) i didnt feel my first until about 18weeks i think, i didnt know what to look out for. this morning is the first morning i felt i woke him. i had the same feeling with my daughter. you may feel if after you sneeze, just below your belly button, like a spasm. you may feel like you've woke someone when you wake in the night or morning. hope this helps xo

I didn't feel definate movement til i was about 20-21 weeks, as it was my 1st, not sure what it was supposed to feel like.I think 17-18 weeks is the earliest you can feel movement. Think positive...i am for you!
When is your next u/s?

Most women don't feel it for the first time until past 18wks like the other ladies said...some first time mommies don't feel it until well into the don't worry :-D. I felt my daughter (first baby) for the first time at 15/16wks and my son (2nd) at 12/13....but USUALLY women don't feel their first until AT LEAST 18, and that will be flutters....the real "kicking" won't start until 20+wks. there are always exceptions but they are just that...exceptions. so don't even let it bug you :-D you'll feel the bub soon.

I am into my 17th week too and still waiting to feel the first movement. This is my first as well and all the ladies on MH told me I may need to wait till 20 weeks to start feeling anything :) Just relax, 13 weeks is really early, the baby is really so tiny and the baby's bones start hardening only after 14th week, so even if the baby moves before that, we probably cannot feel it!

Don't worry!  I am pregnant with #5, and I've never felt my babies move before 17-18 weeks.  I know many women swear they do, but they must be wayyy more in tune with their bodies than I am, or something... I am 12 weeks and dying to feel movement, too.  Won't be long, your little one will be poking and jabbing away at you!!

I felt my son at 14 weeks but he would head butt me violently. My ultrasound tech said it wasn't possible until he head butted the ultrasound wand and made it jump LoL. It just depends on how they are sitting, and how much fat you have on your belly. They say with your first that you won't feel movement (what you can identify as movement) until 18 weeks. It starts as a little fluttery feeling that's really hard to tell if it's the baby or gas.

I agree with the others. 13 weeks for a first time mom is really early to be feeling anything. I first did with my daughter at 18 weeks and it was a weird tickling feeling. I didn't feel proper kicks till around 20 weeks or so. When baby gets bigger it'll be much easier to feel. Good luck with your pregnancy!!

13 wks is WAY TOO EARLY to even be feeling anything! ESP for a first time mom.

Expect movement at around 20 wks.

I think I might have felt my first baby only once at about 11-12 weeks and it was a very faint butterfly flutter and I knew it was unlike anything else, gas, etc. that was going on inside of me.  But, I didn't really start feeling him until several weeks later...maybe at least 16-17 weeks.

With this one, I don't think I have felt her (or him) yet, but I am having a harder time telling if it's gas or maybe light flutters...I am 14 weeks and have been really gassy throughout the entire pregnancy!  haha  So, it's hard to tell what it is.

I think it's possible that you can feel yours at this point, but it'd only be a very faint flutter and probably quite low in your uterus, much lower than the belly button, as your uterus isn't very big yet.  It wouldn't be very likely, as the baby is so small that it has to be in just the right place for you to feel it moving.  But, I think it's still possible.

As for the dull ache you have, it may be due to stretching pain or round ligament pain...there's lots of growing going on at a pretty rapid pace, so you get all kinds of weird abdominal pains in various places.  I get similar sounding pain to that pretty often myself.

You'll be feeling your little one in no time..and yes it's quite unlike anything!  It's amazing because only YOU can feel the inside movements and even when it gets to the point where your husband can feel from the outside, he will have no idea how much more you are feeling.  It's incredible!  And, you don't have much longer to wait! :-)
