Hi everyone, I have been a major couch potato today and will be for the next few days. The ET was about as painful as a pap smear, so not too bad. Nothing like the ER! My ovaries are still very sore from that.
Today they put back 3 embryo's, all 8 cell Grade 1 (their highest rating). Normally, she said she would have only put 2 back at that quality, but due to my age, she felt 3 was the right number. She told me, based on my situation, my chances of success were 35% for this IVF cycle and that my response was unusual. At that point, I needed to have a heart to heart with her.
I said this to her:
"You know, when a came here a few months ago, I must say my RE was very supportive, but this isn't always the case. At many Fertility Clinics, women over 40 are treated like they are already in Menopause. The truth is that we are over a decade from that, and although we are not as fertile as we were in our 20's, many of us have regular cycles and are very much able to get pregnant with healthy babies. I would like you to share my story with your colleagues as I feel it is your job to make sure you help us get to the good eggs, not just immediately discount our ability to have a baby. Now I know that some of my 18 embryo's may be genetically abnormal, but you can't say that for sure. Truth is you never put just 1 embryo in - even in 20 somethings, and not all of them get pregnant with the number of embryo's transferred. So I guess what I am saying is, please support us and help us. When I first came to this clinic 6 months ago, I was told I had a 5% chance of success with IVF. Now, based on my cycle, it has jumped to 35%. If I didn't believe you were wrong, I would have never taken the chance."
I just felt I needed to get that out. For all of us.
Now, I better get my BFP or I am going to be a little embarassed next time! Love you all, xoxo Heidi
