OB Intake Appt

Jul 27, 2011 - 2 comments

Had my OB Intake Appointment yesterday.  Oddly enough, you do not see your OB at this appointment.

DH and I first talked to a lady who gave us the EDD, got all of our family history, and walked us through what the appointment schedule will look like and what happens.  The best part, is she gave me an entire sheet on ideas of how to beat morning sickness!  We got to ask whatever questions we wanted, but the only thing I wanted to know was, how do I get my Progesterone levels checked?  Well, the Dr. has to call for it... ugh!  Luckily the lady said she'd contact the Dr. herself and express my concerns.

Then we went to the financing lady.  The pre- and post-natal care and a vaginal delivery from the clinic costs a flat $2800 ($3200 for a c-section).  She says that number is some kind of regional or national average.  She told us the total cost of a baby is $14,000, but I don't know if that includes the $2800 the clinic charges or just the hospital charges.  Either way, it's a good thing we have insurance!  She had already contacted them and run the numbers and it looks like we'll be paying less than $4000 if all goes normal.

I was then sent to get blood taken.  Normally they're just checking for HIV, Rubella, blood type, CBC, etc., but thanks to the first lady who talked to my doc, they were also checking my Progesterone, yay!

Thinking I was done, I went to walk away and they threw a pee cup at me... they needed to check cultures or bacteria or something.  I wish I had known ahead of time so that I would have drank some water (unless I'm bursting, I can't pee on demand for someone else).

So all in all, I did not learn any more about our baby, but it was satisfying to get things going.  I am also very thankful about the Progesterone test (I've weaned myself off the Vitex and have been super nervous about it dropping!!)

My next appointment is in 3 weeks after I should be about 8 weeks along.  I'll get to see my normal doc for my first prenatal.  If she feels my uterus and it doesn't "feel" like she expects it to for that far along, she can justify sending me in for an ultrasound!

DH was with me the entire time and is now super excited.  He can't stop talking about it and how it's becoming all real to him, haha!
