Tristan and school

Aug 09, 2011 - 3 comments

HI, Went to the Paed he feels because of Tristan's Autism that he isn't getting enough food in and that's why the anaemia. We don't think so. We will agree for the time being seeing he is on the mend. We are struggling with the fact that we live in a very rural community and now have a big decision to make as far as where do we send Tristan to school. The best school for him means we have to put him on the severe disability register and he is a bit too high functioning for that maybe. Very frustrating at the moment. His special ed teacher is trying to be helpful but it is so stressing. I know that it will all sort out and that we will look back on this and smile but at the moment it is very stressy. There are all sort of regulations about catholic and public schools. We loose the ability to use the special school as a resource if we go the catholic school my other children attend. HMMMMMM

I was wondering how the dear boy is doing, dilemma's how I hate them ..sometimes as you obviously think..its best to take that step back and let the dice fall where they may ...not easy I know Can you not teach him at home have a tutor come by the house or is that not possible in your rural area ? .

It's an idea Margy as I have finished most of my teaching degree so could. Just that we are strong believers in the social benefits especially for a child with asd. The special school is an autism specific school and would be the best for Tristan as it has therapy based learning all the time. He would get all the therapy he needs just have to get him in there and to do so is quite difficult. If we did have therapists come we have just found out that we get 12,000 funding until he is 7 but for one appoint we are paying 180 plus transport 300kms!!!! So probably looking at 300 an appointment huge. So it is an option until he is 7 maybe?? Thanks again Margy

I am a big believer in home schooling, you chose the times , the days they get one o one teaching , several in my family have done it all have gone on to Uni .my original concern was if they were socialised enough but they where, they have friends .Its really worth checking out especially for whats happening to us in the US today where the children are often taught things parents do not approve of ..
