hahahahah....you both are tooooooo funny! Good idea to tape them under my clothes. Perhaps in my underwear!
Margy, I was there last year, so I know what they need, which is pretty much everything. Since my focus is on moms and babies, much of what I'm taking is for them, vitamins of all types including infant vits, tylenol for infants on up to adults, baby ASA, just about everything on earth.
I'm also bringing a baby ambu bag, a lot of surgical instruments, speculums, everything.
Seriously speaking for a minute, it looks like bulk is going to be as much of a problem as weight. I realize this is in checked baggage and so bulk shouldn't matter as much, but if you want to compress, can some things travel without their outer packaging? (Like if pills are on a bubble card, do you need the box?) I realize that medications that we think of as over the counter would look strange to us without their packages, but if things are going to be dispensed more like a pharmacy to the ladies at the clinic, would it matter as much? Or could you get generic bottles that are plastic and get rid of anything glass? Things like that?
Oh, we condense everything. All outer boxes come off, pills on a blister pack are fine, I condense all the same brand/type pills (like the prenatals especially, they only fill each bottle about half full, so I open them and fill each one to the brim with the next bottle, until you can empty a few, saves space)
You can't combine pills of different types or brands, though. Even if its the same thing, if 2 different looking pills are in the same bottle, bye bye. And you can't bring expired meds in.
I'm already resigned to the fact I'm going to pay $125 for a third suitcase to check. Pretty much a certainty. 1st checked bag is free (that will by my personal suitcase) 2nd is $40, and 3rd is $125. All must be under 50#.
I can`t seem to be on MH enough to keep up with your events. In case you and your medical suitcases are already at the airport, I can only wish you a safe and meaningful time during your mission and beyond. Hope you also found a way to keep your dog in good care. I just read about his illness.
Return safely - and you know, you will likely never be or feel the same - but the same with an even broader horizon. Enjoy your journey of a full life. Hope a fuller wallet is in the picture, too. I know those starchy diets of plain pasta 6 times a week....
All the best and keep us in the loop, somehow.
