Take Your Hand And Put It On Me!!!
A Word of Encouragement
My Dear Friends in the Faith:
Not long ago my beautiful wife Dorrie and I saved our nickels and dimes so that we could take our kids to Disney World. It was the trip of a life time. My daughter Sumone proved to be a bold roller coaster rider. But, my son Jonathan proved to be a man after my own heart. He did not want to ride anything that would drop him, shake him or twist him. So he stayed with me to make sure that the snacks were okay (catch my drift?).
By the second day however, Jonathan found a ride he wanted to experience. It was "Lilo and Stiches Adventure." We waited in line for nearly an hour, walked into a dark auditorium and took our seats. John is a little afraid of the dark too I might add. The ride started and the chairs started to move, smoke started shooting out from every angle and my sons eyes got as big as silver dollars. In my love and care for him I said "Jonathan, are you alright?" And, he responded "Yea Daddy, I'm alright!" A few moments went by with loud voices coming from the ride and a little more smoke and Jonathan said in a loud voice, "Daddy, I know that you are over there, but I can't feel you! Take your hand and put it on me!"
Have you ever had a moment when life got dark, things got crazy and you knew that God was there but you just could not feel Him anymore? Have you ever been in a place in your life where you felt like my son with the Lord? Have you ever wanted to ask God to put His hand on you, your situation, your circumstances, your family, your health, your children, your spouse, or your finances? Here's the shouting news from this weeks devotional, God can touch you like nobody else can! You just have to be bold enough to say "God I know that you are there, but I can't feel you! Take your hand and put it on me!"
Listen to the words of this text as Jesus puts His hand on a man that really needs a touch from God.
When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed (Matthew 8:1-3, KJV).
As we consider this passage there are some requirements that you must meet in order for God to give you His hand. First, you must be broken beyond your capacity to fix your current dilemma. Please get this, if you can fix it you don't need God's help. This nameless man has leprosy and there is nothing he can do to heal himself of the disease. His problem is too big for him, but it is just right for God. Is your problem too big for you to handle? If so, you qualify for the hand of God.
Secondly, you must believe that God can heal you with your whole heart. Let me ask you a probing question. Do you really believe that God is able to handle your current circumstances? Please receive this, God will not bless you beyond your own ability to believe. This man in our passage was crazy enough to believe that God could do it. In fact, he tells Jesus "if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean." If you really believe that God can do it you qualify for the hand of God.
Lastly, you must break some rules regarding worship. If you really want God's hand DO NOT ask Him for it. If you want His hand simply touch His heart with sincere worship. And, when you touch His heart He will give you His hand. This leper broke through the crowd and worshipped! He did not ask the Lord for His hand. He touched His heart with worship. The Greek word used here for worship is pros-ken-neo. It means to kiss or to be near enough to watch the eye blink. To be intimate with. He was not supposed to do it because of his condition. Lepers were supposed to be quarantined but he did it anyway. This is the spirit of worship that we all need from time to time. A spirit that says, "I am going to do it anyway!" Where ever you are right now worship! Do it anyway!!!!
I placed my hand on my son and it calmed his nerves, eased his doubts and soothed his fears. Now if my hand can do that with my child, just think about God's hand and you! Have you ever been touched by God? If you have then you know that He is real! I pray that your brokenness leads to blessedness, that your belief leads to your miracle and that your worship breaks some rules as you give God the glory anyway! May the hand of God touch you and change your situation is my earnest petition.
