Your Baby’s Firsts

From Birth: Grasping

From Birth: Grasping

Babies are born with an involuntary grasping reflex. Try it — put your finger in his hand and he’ll curl his tiny fingers around yours. He’ll start intentionally reaching out and trying to grab things at around 3 months old. You can encourage this skill by placing a soft toy in front of him, just a little bit out of his reach. For safety, be aware of this reaching and grasping milestone well before the 3-month mark and keep dangerous objects out of his reach.
