Natural Ways to Fight Depression

Shatter the Negative Crystal Ball

Shatter the Negative Crystal Ball

Teaching yourself how to think concretely about difficult things in your life — rather than letting generalized negative thoughts take over — can improve depression symptoms in as little as two months, according to British researchers. And unlike traditional talk therapy that requires repeated (and often expensive) visits to a therapist, "concreteness training" can be learned in just a couple visits — or even with online training.

For example, if you got to work late one day and were confronted by your boss, this strategy calls for playing the scene through in your head like a movie, focusing on the details of the event (you arrived late and missed an important meeting) rather than brooding about the abstract (that you're bad at your job, your boss hates you and you're probably going to get fired).
