There are some factors that put you at higher risk for prediabetes that you can’t change, such as:
Age: If you are 45 years old or older, you are at an increased risk.
A family history of type 2 diabetes
Ethnicity: If you are African-American, Hispanic, American Indian, American-Asian or Pacific Islander, you are at an increased risk.
A history of
gestational diabetes
or giving birth to a baby weighing more than 9 pounds
