A study by University of Arizona researchers found coliforms on half of the vacuum brushes tested, and the strain of E. coli that causes abdominal cramps, bloody diarrhea and vomiting on 13 percent of them. While bagless vacuums help mitigate bacterial growth inside the receptacle, the only way to keep your attachments clean is to spray with a disinfectant after each use and wash weekly with hot soapy water.
