Forming new, healthy habits or breaking old ones may help you live longer, but don't expect the change to happen overnight. It takes time to fully develop a new habit — usually about three to four weeks or more — and requires daily attention and repetition.
"A tip for starting a healthy habit is to write it down on a sticky note and post it where you'll see it most often, [like] the refrigerator door, the bathroom mirror, or your car's dashboard," Benabio said. "The more you see the reminder, the quicker your brain will adapt."
