A 16-ounce frappuccino and a smoothie of the same size have similar calorie counts, but the frappuccino has about twice as much fat, most of which is saturated, and higher sodium and cholesterol levels. Not all smoothies are healthy, however. "Smoothies tend to sell themselves as servings of fruit when they frequently have very little fruit and are filled with fruit syrup and whipping cream," says Kim Gorman, MS, RD, registered dietitian and exercise physiologist for the University of Colorado's Center for Human Nutrition at the Anschutz Medical Campus.
