The feelings come on suddenly without warning — your heart is racing, you’re faint and dizzy, your hands and fingers are numb, you can’t catch your breath. You feel like you’re losing control, having a heart attack, going crazy. You might even think you’re dying. And then, almost as suddenly as the feelings appeared, they’re gone.

Panic attacks can be frightening — and they’re not as rare as you might think. Experts estimate that more than a quarter of all people will experience at least one in their lifetime.
