Is It Safe to Wear a Seatbelt?

Is It Safe to Wear a Seatbelt?

Yes! Women — pregnant or not — should always buckle up. But pay close attention to how the belt is arranged. Ensure the lap part of the belt lies across the hipbone, under the belly, says Jason S. James, MD, an obstetrician and chairman of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at Baptist Hospital of Miami. The shoulder strap should be across the belly. Accidents happen; if you’re in a fender-bender, be sure to call your ob/gyn right away to get seen.
