I have had them for almost four months and I will be seeing an ENT March 1st. My general practice doc saw them while treating me for a virus, my dentist thought it was herpes related and I knew better, not the same symptoms at all! I was also tested and neg for herpes. That did scare me and after I told her about superficial mucoceles she agreed with me. So, now I am seeing if I need to have this one removed because it doesn't wanna just go away. I have had them in several areas on my lower inner gum, all are gone but this one. Vit C, fresh orange and oj are all helping though. Once I found out I have HPV I researched to find a link between the two but have not found any, other than stress. I just realized I need a manicure, BAD!
All this stress and worry figuring HPV out...no mani's and I usually have nice french nails. I am finally getting back on track with life, took a long walk today. :)
It looks like Cranker Sore, they may look similar to herpes, but is not herpes. It's a type of mouth ulcer, characterized by a break in the mucous membrane. Its cause is unknown, but they are not contagious.
Google cranker sores, you'll find a lot of info about it.
No..it is not painful at all. It starts small, then bubbles til it pops and either will do this over and over or go away. You mean canker sore, they are painful. I have had oral and blood herpes tests as well as all other STD testing and neg for all of those.
I went to an ENT...so my reg doc, dentist and the ENT all agree, superficial mucocele. I am not worried about it, and this one is finally going away without any new ones popping up. I do think there is some link between HPV and it but only in some odd/rare people like me. No doc has agreed with me but some HPV types predominantly infect mucosa (at least 30 different HPV types infect mucosa) and other HPV types primarily infect skin (at least 35 different HPV types infect skin).
Thank you so much for posting this pic! It looks EXACTLY like what I have...I have had a recurring mucocele in pretty much the same spot as yours (mine is in the middle, inner side of my bottom lip) for some time and the symptoms sound exactly the same - no pain, one single bubble, usually pops in a few hours - sometimes returns, sometimes just turns white and goes away. It first showed up years ago when I had braces, and my ortho said it was from the friction. After the braces, it went away for a while, then came back from time to time years later. I would go back and forth trying to figure out what it was; my regular doc wasn't sure at first and thought it may be HSV, but then said the symptoms weren't the same as HSV. I have looked up mucoceles up on the web and get some interesting pictures, but this is exactly what the one I get looks like! Thanks again for posting!
