Any time I see hummingbirds of any kind, I am reminded of a dear friend of mine who passed away a couple of years ago. I can still remember the glass hummingbird she had hanging in her kitchen window and how she told me how much she loved hummingbirds. I think that variety there might be the one known as a rufus.
That's a nice way to remember a dear friend. The hummers in my yard have a metallic green or red throat area. They are very tiny and sound like mini helicopters. Many times they have swooped very close to my head. These ones are called Ruby-throated.
Wow you are so so lucky to be able to photograph things like this in your garden, the only birds I see around my house are sea gulls and all they do is squawk and make a mess on my car
