They just opened their eyes 2 days ago. Talk about sassy little "stinkers." They stomp around in their cage and grumble and trill. And they lift their tail straight up if anything annoys them. Quick to learn. I'll be glad when they learn to feed on their own. I'm tired of hand feeding them every 3-4 hours. Yawn!
Both males. When they were younger that was a big problem. The larger one of the two kept nursing on the other one's doodad. So I had to separate them. A swollen (ahem) means he can't go tinkle. But raising a mammal alone means a risk of them imprinting on me, a human. I was so glad when their eyes opened and they could go back together. Now that number 2 has his eyes open, he's not as tolerant of all that stuff and gets mad, stomps off away from the bigger baby.
No, they both have their scent glands. The plan is to release them in a couple months back to the wild. That's why it's so important to make sure they don't love me. I wish I knew how to do videos. They are so cute and ornery at feeding time. I can only feed one at a time so the other will stomp around, make lots of grumbling, squeaky noises till I pick him up. And they do little skunk f@rts now. That's what I call tiny squirts of scent. Not much fun for me.
On my goodness they are SO SO SO cute!! I don't know how you are going to keep them from loving you or you from loving them. I definitely don't envy the skunk smell that you have to endure. If you decide to keep them, will you take out their scent glands?I wish I could have on. LOL
Sorry but I won't even try to keep them. It's all part of my job, caring for orphaned and injured wildlife. And it's a great reward to take in the wild ones, care for them and see them fly or toddle away on their own again.
